Transfer Portal 2024

If I’m being honest I don’t think Karlen is a good fit, imo she would play the same position as Heyer and they both should be starters at their respected school. Mal has done too much to lose minutes.

Liza Karlen would be a massive improvement over Heyer at the 4, but we could play her at the 5. My guess is that she wants to go where she can get at least to the round of 16.

Lot of minutes for everyone if you think about it. 4 10 minutes quarters = 40 minutes times 5 players = 200 total minutes + any overtimes. Positions are a little more versatile now in basketball. Iowa had 5 guard type players a few times even.

Figure 32 mpg average for Braun (CC average) that still leaves 168 pts/game. Even with 7 other in rotation that is 24/mpg for the other 7 players. If you even have 8 others in rotation that is still 21/mpg average. (over half the game) Yes this is an average as some might be 5-10 and some might be 25-32. The ladies play hard and 21-30 mpg is still a lot!

So 3 have gone out, two in. I really would not be opposed to a back up pg. I’m thinking a 5th year from a successful mid major who will be content coming off the bench. Basically Sanders haha. But with everyone healthy, maybe even play less. I am already so excited!!

I think Klick will be the backup pg. We’re pretty well set. Maybe more from the portal and save the rest for freshman.

Wait Karlen wouldn’t be a good fit because her and Mal play the same position? And Mal would have to get less minutes? Maybe it would make Mal play better… Karlen first team all Big East and would be the Gophers best all around player.. with that said she ain’t coming here.. Coach P would take Karlen in a second and deal with the hurt feelings later..

Any one heard if Peterson is considering the Gophers? I think that would be a good get to complete the team.

Reminder, most of the transfer game for Minnesota is to retain best players. Little news is good news because the Gophers want to keep what they have. The Gophers players will reach a performance peak ahead as upperclassmen.

If the news is added players, then that is frosting on the cake. Gophers have added, good news.

Think it’s more of a dream. Have to think she’ll go somewhere big to ensure a ncaa run.

Things are kind of slim at the 4, as the departing players were forwards for the most part. The departures are done for now and the core players are still here. I know "no crying over spilt milk" yet I am going to miss Ayianna Johnson. I think she could have developed into very good #4 along with Heyer and Holloway. Lots of guards to try and fit in where there aint much room with Braun, Battle and Grace in the backcourt. Is Zie coming back? Where would you look to add another 4?

Have we heard anything on Karlen? I'm still dreaming of her in a Gopher uniform.

The U of M athletic department has no shortage of personnel, the basketball staff has double figures of people, why can't somebody update the roster in an even somewhat timely fashion?
It's May 6th, season ended a month ago, most any/all news is easily a week old to 30 days old.

The students most likely haven't technically been admitted to the U yet. I'd personally rather have the staff be all in on recruiting the portal and putting in the leg work to attract high school talent than worrying about a website in the first week of May. The roster should be updated by the time fall practice comes around.

the semester hasn't ended yet.. the Woodson and Stewart aren't in classes at the end.. they will get updated in June, when the Freshman get there.

Most schools post their roster updates in June, once the new recruits and transfers have reported to campus. With all the AAU tournaments going on right now, I’d rather have the coaches focusing on recruiting, rather than updating the website, which really doesn’t matter right now.

And, for whatever it is worth.....coaches are not recruiting this week - as May 6 - May 12 is a dead period. No contacts allowed.

See my post about the 2024-2025 official roster at Gopher Sports,

Today's roster shows 13 players, all from either Minnesota or Wisconsin. This means there are two seats left on the bench. Lots of portal signings yet to be had however has the cream of the crop already been signed? I wonder how the chemistry is on the team right now?

As long as Minnesota coaches cater to Coyle and influential alumni and have essentially all Minnesota players, Minnesota basketball will be perennial second division teams.

Wrong! If you added Bueckers and Tessa Johnson to this team they’d be contending for the national championship! Girls hs basketball in Minnesota is very good.

Fact: Minnesota has very high girls basketball participation and produces a higher number of college players.

Fact: Players in other parts of the country may be reluctant to attend college in cold, snowy Minnesota far from home.

Conclusion: Land players from the upper Midwest. Try for other players too but realistically the upper Midwest is a good recruiting source.
