Payne, Carrington, Ola-Joseph and Ihnen...

I had hopes for Ihnen contributing this year and he certainly didn't. I was glad he seemed to be moving on to open up a roster spot. But now, maybe wanting to come back...

He's been roommates with Fox. Would you take him back if it meant getting Fox back?

Sounds like Carrington was thinking about reentering the Gopher air space...?
I'd take Carrington back with the same role as this year with a caveat that he's not a locker room agitator.

We have to see who comes in to fill those spots to know if they were losses.

Also, did the Gophers have to save everything to keep the guys on top and maybe they weren't a priority?

Ihnen would be low post depth. I kind of assume Ben will waste another scholarship or two on people worse than him.

LOL.
How many minutes has Ihnen played low post in his life?
The vast majority of them other than when Ben played him out of position this year. Most of Ihnen's minutes a few years ago were as a stretch 4.

He's a power forward. His first two seasons he rebounded better than Parker Fox did last year. He rebounded about the same as Dawson Garcia. He was blocking about 2 shots per 40. His first two seasons, his best asset was as a post defender and rebounder.

Sounds like Payne is getting huge offers from southern schools, so I'd be shocked
Where are you seeing that? I would think he would have landed at this point if he had multiple huge offers.

Right I do not think I have ever witnessed him attempt a low post move. He may "play" PF but using the word presence and Ihnen is laughable. He is really really bad. He is 25 what is the point. He floats around the perimeter lost wishing he was 6'3. He is a lifetime 38% shooter who attempts 2/3 of his shots from 3. He makes 31% of those. As others have laughed and scoffed at but I would take a flyer on Evans over bringing Ihnen back. He was/is never going to be a top 9 guy on a NCAA tournament team and he is really old by college bb standards.

Correct. He doesn't have the mentality to bang but he is has the length to help down low.
He doesn't have the mentality to do anything on a basketball court. And if he had the length to help down low, he would have helped down low last season. Bringing him back would be a terrible idea, imo.

The witness is pulling shit out of his ass, your honor.

It wasn't until more into his 2nd year where he was playing the 4, but you're right that is where he belongs and where he is the most effective.

For some reason he must not believe that, and Ben isn't willing to put him back there. For most of year 1, and again this year, he mostly floated around the perimeter. If that's where he wants to play, then good riddance.

One of the many red flags from BJ for me is when he has discussed how Ihnen can guard all 5 positions when he doesn't have that ability at all, even pre injury.

I think you are correct about his mentality.

It’s a the hardest thing to coach.

I get the feeling if he understood how hard his drive was to gaurd, he’d be double his value.

Where are you seeing he is getting huge offers?
Supply and demand of mobile big men. Hard for me to see a roster anywhere that would not benefit from his presence if he’s willing to accept a role he fits in.

No specifics. Just an observation that 6-9 250 guys with quickness and hops are rare and will be in demand.

Man this is cringy.

This is how a second grader thinks it works in the courtroom. Oddly enough, it's also how a second grader acts when he's been proven wrong.

Well yeah, he's not good, but that it his position.

He was just buried behind Payne, Carrington, Fox, JOJ, and Ihnen.

Everyone except a small number of people on this board realize he is a 4.

Wouldn't they all be considered disloyal quitters? What did Carrington do that the other three didn't do?
No.

He stepped away from the team for mental health reasons - he was having too much anxiety to play basketball but he was perfectly fine to go to whatever ceremony took place at his high school. During that time, all the rumors come out that he's actually going to enter the transfer portal.

So we have two options.

1 - The rumors of him leaving midseason are BS and he had a genuine mental health issue. Ben Johnson and the team supported him at a time when we needed him on the court. That's, of course, the right thing to do. Then his reaction to that support is to immediately transfer for better opportunities elsewhere. When people support you at your lowest and that's how you react, I think it says a lot about his character.

OR

2 - He really didn't have a genuine mental health issue and he was pouting about something. He hid behind the issue to deflect and he was genuinely looking around during the season. We still took him back and he shows absolutely no loyalty and he hid behind something like mental health to hide from criticism.

It reminds me a little of the Gopher football player who quit the team and entered the portal during Badger week. I think it was Curtis Dunlap.

I just can't see a scenario where Carrington didn't piss on Ben's loyalty.

You can't really depend on Carrington for anything. I sure wouldn't want him to be a big part of the rotation. Sure kids make mistakes but he would really have to earn anything big time at this point.
