Trev Alberts bolts Nebraska, upgrades as new AD of A&M

His leaving enforces the fact Nebraska football has seen better days & the state of their program. I now expect a win against Nebraska not shocked excited thrilled. In the world of college football Nebraska is an after thought.

I don’t think this is a money thing. Alberts was apparently in the top 10 paid ADs and had a contract that would keep him there. A&M has plenty of wealthy boosters and oil money, but it’s not like Nebraska was lacking funds for athletics.

Nor do I think this says anything about the state of Husker football or anything. A&M hasn’t been hot stuff lately either.

The sense out of Lincoln is that there’s some ugly personal/political stuff behind the scenes.

posted about this on basketball board. some buzz from Nebraska fans that this might be connected to a pending lawsuit. a former Nebraska Women's basketball player - who had a sexual relationship with an assistant coach - is suing the University and Alberts for their handling of the situation.
Seems logical given that there is also some scuttlebutt that it was Alberts' rep who reached out to A&M rather than the other way around. Not unheard of, but unusual for somebody who has the top job at his alma mater with a high salary and a brand new contract extension through 2031 that he signed just a few months ago.

Yeah if he came from say Syracuse or something ... sure you want to move up in pay and career challenges and etc.

On the other hand I've had a lot of questions over the years about WHO is calling the shots at Nebraska in terms of the AD, coaching searches, general Nebraska administration ...

I feel like it might be nobody, and any AD who wants to make decisions won't like that after a while.

Past Neb ADs seemed very wishy washy but ... maybe they were just powerless?

Shocking Nebraska still has a huge loyal fan base after the decades of bad decisions, losses & failure.

They just hired the AD from University of Washington to replace Trev Alberts
If you can turn a place like Washington into a natty game participant … then yeah, it obviously makes sense for someone to hire that coach and someone to hire the guy who hired that coach.

Worked with a guy who would go up and down naming the players from the NE championship teams. I have never met fans who cared so much for college football. I embrace it now and figure they add to the pageantry they makes college football special.

Never a fan of a guy leaving so quickly like Dannen did at Washington. He was there like 5 months.

Dannen came from Tulane. I can't find it now (just spent at least 2 minutes trying) - there was an article in nola.com where he said there was more support from university admins for the football program at Tulane then there is at Washington. Seems really surprising, Tulane is a small school that barely sells out its much smaller stadium, but I guess they're putting money behind football.

People do not leave jobs, relationships, marriages, colleges because they are happy. Trev has a skeleton in his closet. Like the X-files told us "the truth is out there".

Pretty weak argument, if that’s what he said. He may have indeed had better admin contact at Tulane, but Washington a much larger institution with 49,000 students to Tulane’s 14,000 (UW also has 22 athletic teams to Tulane’s 14). So the contact he gets from admins is going to be less.

Trev wants to be a major conference commissioner or head of College football playoff and has expressed interest in those jobs in the past. I think he feels being both a BIG and SEC AD will put him in a better position when those jobs open again.

What does any CEO of a billion dollar corporation do? They create a conducive environment that a university board can digest.
From my experience, they take their own core four and move from company to company. I was really surprised at how frequently occurs. ‘Off to another software company…’
