All Things Turd Sandwiches

fictionalizing gard's success doesn't help
Gard hired March 2016

2016-17. NCAA tourny
2017-18 no tourny
2018-2019 NCAA tourny
2019-2020 there was no NCAA Tourny for anyone
2020-2021 NCAA Tourny
2021-2022 NCAA Tourny
2022-2023 NIT

certainly envious of the program bennett and ryan built. but the trends i/m seeing tell me gard won't be long at Wisconsin. he didn't run the titanic into an iceberg, buy the bilge pumps aren't running and the ship is taking on water
Anyone in this board would take those results, even half of those results, in the last ten years.

Never Stopped. Lost 7 of their last 9 And finish off the season with Purdue on the road.
yep. paper tiger. I had them at 11-9 in conference. 10-10 is possible. guessing gard will be out if they don't do well in the btt or tourney

begin the 'LOL, great coach, great record, if he were at MN they'd build a statue of him' stuff
just look what happened to Chryst. WI and McIntosh aren't happy with mediocre

Marcus Domask led all scorers with 31. Wisconsin kid with no Wisconsin offer. EDIT: Seems he wasn't a high major prospect out of high school, so that's understandable. I don't want to become a "Why didn't the Gophers recruit Nate Wolters?" guy

It seems like a fair portion of Wisconsin fans are ready to move on from Gard, but I'm not sure if that's a good move for them. Seems like they could do a lot worse. But Greg Gard isn't Bo Ryan, and so maybe they decide that's not good enough.

Any coaches in the WIAC of note? That's been Wisconsin's MO in hiring men's basketball head coaches.

I was wrong about the badgers. I thought chunky, crowl, and wahl would be enough to win.

He had two D1 offers -
S. Illini
Green Bay

I wouldn't.

Gard made the Sweet-16 twice in his first year-and-a-half with his inherited team. Since then, his best is the Round-of-32 (twice).

Their win vs Marquette is going to be the only reason they get an invite. Without that they have no resume. They are no more deserving than Nebraska who's on the bubble.

boy did i catch it a few weeks ago when i mentioned on this board that gard was not a good coach (in reference to frietag getting better development from gard than assuma under cbj).

there are some on this board that are gard fans. I don't get it. and i don't think he'll be there in four years. gard has the badgers on a slow decline
You caught flack because you compared Gard to Ben Johnson. Even Gard’s crappy seasons are worse than almost every season of Gopher basketball. He is over .500 in the Big 10 almost every year.

It was and is an awful take.

Does that make me a huge fan of Gard? Of course not.

iirc, i don't think i did that. there was a reply to my original post mentioning cbj to which i replied comparing gard to minnesota coaches is silly since minnesota coaches have been so bad.

gard's been a bit lucky this season, he's been able to start the same 5 players every game. watching the current tailspin, either opposing coaches are figuring out this season's badgers or the roster is just too thin: 5 guys and not much else. most of what i read from badger faithful is they think the roster is limited and they'll have to find more aj storrs

It’s almost like having a real non-conference schedule can help you.
In the off-season, you were raving about how great Nolan & Trevor Winter are. Even saying that Trevor is a Final Four and NBA player...turning technicalities into tremendous exaggerations.

Now, with Ben's ground-up rebuild improving us to a bubble-team along with Wisconsin...your focus is back to the non-conference schedule. Unbelievable.

Wisconsin isn't great but they make plays at times, I thought they played better against Illinois Than I would have predicted. It might depend on what other teams do but without a win they could be outside the bubble.

Could you repeat that please? 🤔

They have so many Quad 1 wins that they are a lock.

Oh, and that is worse than what we have experienced in the last ten years? I guess I know who appreciated this program making new program worst seasons in three out of the last six seasons.

Your point is understood but the Gophers are not a bubble team. That is an exaggeration.

You said I'd take half of Gard's results over the next 10 years.

Which would be 1 Round-of-32 appearance. We can't count Gard's first year-and-a-half with his inherited team...that's non-applicable.

Maybe I'm older than you guys...or have a better memory or something. I'm certainly less likely to go along with the changing times with no questions asked.

In the past, we'd be on the bubble. It wasn't all about computers.
