2023-24 Gopher Hockey Season

I just thought Koster seemed a bit off his game. Not sure if that knee injury earlier in the season is still hampering him or not. Normally he is really fluid and clean passing. Had some giveaways on outlet passes that felt uncharacteristic and looked a step slower than usual.

Not cause for tar and feathering the whole D. :) Koster is a really good player and the team will need him down the stretch.
I suspect that Koster is still nowhere near 100 and hasn't been all year. He hasn't been awful by any means, but he has shown more in the past.

On the flip side, Rinzel is blossoming into a star before our eyes, and Chesley seems to have cleaned up his game since returning from Sweden.

I agree. I noticed he was very slow to get up after taking hits at least twice this weekend. Wonder if something is still bothering him. And yes, he (along with other few others) had some giveaways. At the same time, he was involved offensively. The D as a whole was. Sam R. made some beautiful plays that led to goals. I thought Luke M was solid this weekend too, as were Thomas and Chesley. Yep, there were some screw-ups but I think this group is really improving. If he stays, I believe Rinzel will be one of the best D to ever play for the Gophers.

BTW, this is not D related but props to Snuggy for a couple of great checks this weekend. I didn't know he had that physical element to his game!

He also showed some additional skating features I hadn't really seen before - and it isn't like he was lacking in that area, either. There were a couple of moments in both games where I was like "damn, he just undressed that guy!"

By the end of the next two series it's time to start rolling 5 D more and more as that will be necessary against good teams when games are tight.

Also time for Close to step up and get his save percentage to at least .920 going into the postseason.

Same old shit. Motkzo lost the team after the Tampa choke.

I’m shocked I tell you that you would say something like this. You’re a joke. Just because you were banned from GPL doesn’t mean we need to hear your crap on here.

Did you watch the game that just happened and this whole year so far?

Couldn't watch, but checked score periodically and just assumed they were gonna win with the score 2-0 going into the third. Boy was I fucking wrong.

You are lucky you didn't witness whatever that was

At least my four FF club level tickets should be a decent profit to a UND/DU/BC/BU fan.

Every minute. You’re king of knee jerk reactions. We lost a road game to the #8 team in the country. Very tough loss the way it unfolded but get a grip. It doesn’t mean Motzko has lost the team.

But Bonin21 has won multiple National Championships as a college coach.

Are you watching the games and do you know hockey? Or just keeping your maroon and gold glasses on the whole time. This team is what they have looked like the whole year.

You mean like the current #9 team in the country? I’ve had season tickets since ‘88. Yes I know hockey and I know Gopher hockey. Chill out and let it play out. Tonight was a huge bummer but if we win tomorrow night it’s a good weekend. Take a breath.

So I fought with BTN + for 30 minutes trying to subscribe to no avail. What the hell happened in the 3rd? Minnesota was dominating everything through 2 periods in basically all the statistical categories.

Here is the thing. Even when the Gophers win, you complain about something. During the last 5 game winning streak, you chose to look at the negative. A discussion was made about the goalies for next year, and instead of waiting to see how it will shake out, you go negative. If Bob doesn't get every top prospect, you complain. When someone calls you out about your negativity, you always throw out the Maroon and Gold glasses line. You continue to look back at the FF game. We all know they should have won that game, but it is over. I will be the 1st to admit that they have given away a bunch of games this year as well, but I choose to still be a fan.

If they win tomorrow in regulation it's an acceptable weekend on paper, not a good weekend. Especially after what happened tonight.

He was banned from GPL for a reason. Very negative, irrational, and a downer to put it politely, Overreacts to every game, typically negatively.

I 100% agree with your take on a certain poster who thinks he knows hockey better than the rest of us. Negativity and arrogance is a bad combo. That said, last night was an awful collapse. I am sure most people would at that one and say "you can't give up 3 goals in the 3rd period. The D was bad." That is a correct assessment in my book, but I was equally, if not more, concerned about the scoring. We had several power play chances last night in the second and 3rd periods (I am still down this morning and too lazy to look it up). You have to be able to put some of those away. We needed that 3rd goal badly. It's a different game at that point. We didn't get it. In general our forechecking seemed light to me.

Anyway, I won't go off the deep end yet. We really, really need the W today.

I'll close by asking Bonin this question... what did you think of our effort in the National Championship game last year? You have been unclear and pretty guarded with your thoughts. Sarcasm detectors 'on' please.

What part of that made you assume that I'd turn it off or watched something else?

Pretty easy. Because you post when they are behind and then if they win you usually disapper. Same on the Women's Hockey site.

What other conclusion should we take from that?;)

Gophers men's hockey bounces back with 5-1 victory for split with Michigan State

Oliver Moore scored twice and the Gophers added to their lead in the third period.

Bryce Brodzinski and Aaron Huglen scored 82 seconds apart early in the first period, Oliver Moore scored twice and the ninth-ranked Gophers men's hockey team defeated eighth-ranked Michigan State 5-1 in East Lansing, Mich., for a split of the Big Ten series.

The Gophers (15-7-4, 8-5-3 Big Ten) lost 3-2 Friday night at Munn Ice Arena, when the Big Ten-leading Spartans (17-6-3, 11-3-2) scored all their goals in the third period, the last coming with 4 seconds left. There was no third-period trouble Saturday, as Moore's third goal of the weekend made it 4-1 with 9 minutes remaining, and Mason Nevers made it a four-goal lead with 3:44 to play..

Salvaged the weekend from disaster but by no means a good weekend. MSU might be top 8ish but by the end of the year Michigan and maybe uw will be teams actually capable of beating anyone four times in a row because of UM's talent and uw's coaching.

Let's see if they can string two together next weekend.

I want to publicly apologize to bonin21. I was too hard on him last night and I was out of line. He can be a frustrating poster due to overall negativity but he knows Gopher hockey and has a right to post without me admonishing him like I did.

I’m choosing not to read what was posted after last night’s game, but anything you said to him was probably more than fair. The guy is a miserable prick who uses the internet as therapy for his obvious psychological issues. There’s a reason he was banned from GPL and if there was more than about 6 of us who regularly post on this board he would get banned here as well.

Not only is he irritatingly negative, he’s arrogant enough to think that the reason people don’t like him is they are not capable of thinking on his level. He criticizes people for excessive homerism but he’s guilty of just as much bias as those he criticizes, it just happens to be on the other side of things.

On a non-bonin related topic, putting aside last night’s meltdown, this team looks a lot better in the second half. Oliver Moore is coming alive and our D core has played a much cleaner game. Chesley was a major disappointment for me in the first half but looks much better since coming back from Sweden. Let’s get some revenge on the assholes in red next weekend.

Just because I'm not posting doesn't mean I'm not watching.😎
