Gophers offer Sioux Falls (D2) transfer Zach Durfee

Was curious about the QB to DE switch as that would not seem like a common transition. Not sure how big he was when playing QB but according to his bio looks like he is currently 6'5" and 250 so has the size to play DE at the Power 5 level. For comparison that is the exact same height and weight that both Joyner and Strigow are listed at on our roster.

Definitely an intriguing prospect, especially considering he has multiple years left.

I like his film a lot
He's an explosive athlete for sure, and with 3 years to play, they could really develop him. Mostly won with speed and a dip/rip on that film, but he did show a spin and one bull rush. He must've been coached well to make that position change, but I gotta imagine he'd grow quickly with D1 coaching. Intriguing offer.

Given his experience, the Gophers could develop a post-interception, DE-eligible hook-and-pass.

Yes, odd transition. Often on small town HS teams, the best athlete ends up at QB regardless of size and typically would be signed in college as "athlete" if not directly sought out at QB.

Sioux Falls since transitioning to D2 has really built up a nice program there.

It's probably not a huge leap to go from NAIA powerhouse to competitive D2 now that most of the great former D2 programs have jumped to FCS.

Baller. I’m surprised he didn’t commit right when we made the offer. Hope it happens soon.

NAIA can offer 24 scholarships, DII I believe is still 36. So there isn't a huge change there.

He probably wants to get a feeling for potential playing time and weigh the offers. We don't know what kind of offers were made.

He seems to recognize where the play is going rather quickly compared to the other players. I wonder if playing QB helps in that sense?
Probably, but I was thinking more about the jock strap maneuvers he appeared to be making in the photo.

Read he averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds in HS basketball. Probably not the stiffest competition where he's from but still shows he's probably a pretty good athlete.
