OFFICIAL: Minnesota vs Syracuse in Pinstripe Bowl

I think NYC would be cool. I'd like to be there over the holidays. The only thing I really dislike about this bowl is that it is not in a domed stadium. I sit through the 15' games at The Bank, Bowls are supposed to be a reward for the fans too, though, and the thought of spending $3,000+ for two people to go and then completely rolling the dice on gameday weather is just not something I want to do.

Everyone should visit NYC at least once so this is an incredible opportunity for the players. They’ll get to see the landmarks, cultural elites, and the iconic subway. Plenty to see and do. Now, my primary enduring impression of NYC is olfactory -the waft of urine - but that doesn’t totally detract from the experience or the pleasant inhabitants. Every experience can be viewed as a positive and a learning experience with the proper perspective and that’s certainly true here.

That said, bowls IMO should be restricted to warmer weather destinations…

It was a stated "goal" in the agreement and that "goal" had been met for seven years (seven different teams in seven years). It wasn't going to change this year.

Illinois hadn't been to the Pinstripe either.

Just once I’d like someone from the University publicly ask pointed questions about how and why this program always gets the short end on the stick with bowl games.

I’ve heard the “other programs travel better” argument and understand it, but has anyone ever considered that they don’t travel well because we continually get the shaft on Bowl games?

I'm guessing that behind closed door they do. But considering it keeps happening....maybe they need to start asking these questions publically and force the conference to acknowledge it. It puts the program at a disadvantage....which we really don't need more of.

They dumped the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa to sponsor the Pinstripe Bowl instead.
Well, I hope this helps them sell more mowers to guys who wear sleeveless tees all year long to show off their barbed wire tattoo while cruising in their GMC Sierra with a sticker of Calvin passing on the Ford logo in their back window.

Coyle is weak. When I hear him talk I’m never sure he’s speaking English and I’m sure he’s not going to sway anybody or anything with his babble.

F’in Syracuse. LOL I can’t think of an opponent that excites me less.

It'd be nice to hear something from Fleck and/or Coyle on this....but I highly doubt we will.
What do you want Coyle to say? He's completely ineffectual?

What do you want Fleck to say? My offensive scheme is as boring as possible?

Coyle, like Maturi has no pull in the B1G. Our offense is as exciting as watching paint dry (unless you're a big fan of the Gophers and the Gophers are ahead).

We still have a reputation for poor travel, deserved or not.

The result of a weak AD and a regressive offensive philosophy is the Coyle Hire bowl. And that's what we got.

This is oddly quite specific... do you have someone particular in mind?

Y’all think we can postpone this bowl game to March-April 2023? That would excite more of us to go!

Its absolutely hilarious to read all of the "we were screwed again"! rants. You know how you don't get screwed in your bowl game last year? Don't lose to one of the worst teams in the country (Bowling Green) AT HOME. Know how you don't get screwed this year? Don't lose to a lousy Iowa team AT HOME. The Gophers always have one choke job per year that costs them.

I remember both Auburn and Georgia Tech fans moaning and groaning about drawing poor opponent Minnesota in bowl games. Both fan bases, on their blogs at least, thought they deserved a better opponent and, in the case of Georgia Tech, a better bowl. We waxed each of these teams. I hope our team (as opposed to GHolers) is happy and excited to be going to a bowl game in a great city, to play a solid football team. Whiners rarely win; I hope our teams’ attitude is markedly different from what permeates this blog complain-athon.
This what I am afraid of. The last three bowl games that one team thought they should be in a better game/better opponent/etc. ALL LOST (Auburn, Minnesota vs Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and possibly even Washington State as I know they were heavy favorites going into the game). I want this time to be different, but I'm not holding my breath vs. a great Syracuse team, basically a home game for them, Minnesota Twins bad luck in Yankee Stadium vs. the Yankees, etc.

I wouldn’t worry. We all said the same about WV last year and got the victory.

I have no problem with Coyle. We all have strength and weaknesses. I'm sure behind the scenes he is doing just fine. Some people just don't like the camera etc. Don't be so negative. Why? What does that accomplish?

As to New York. Only 5% of the Gophers raised their hand today to state that they have been there. There is much to do there. They will have a good time and see things that they normally wouldn't see and visit for that matter.

I drive a GMC Sierra and don't care for Ford pick-ups, but I do not look good in a sleeveless tee and am not in the market for a mower!

An interesting point. How would you characterize the Gopher fan bubble? How would it differ from the Iowa or Wisconsin fan bubble?

Here's what I was trying to say:

Gopher fans are very familiar with the program. Some guy who's on a bowl committee in NY, NC or TN may know next to nothing about the Gophers. So they do some research, and what do they see?

Haven't won a conf title since 1967. haven't won a divisional title since the start of divisions. never played in a conference championship game. MN had the one big year in 2019, but has not matched that success in recent years. Don't sell out their home stadium - one of the smaller stadiums in the conference.

to an outside observer, especially from another part of the country, MN is not a top program - not a marquee program.

so MN fans say "we deserve a better bowl game," but from outside the fan bubble, the response to that is "Why?"

if that seems harsh, I'm just trying to present it the way an outsider might look at it.

basically a home game for them
Believe me when I say that it is not a home game for Syracuse lol. It is easier to fly from MSP to NYC than from Syracuse to NYC. They are likely marginally less upset than y'all are.

This is key. And the reason why we shouldn’t whine about the bowl we end up in. Fill our stadium with regularity and bowl committees will not see invitations to us as such a risk.

Honestly I hope this game is completely empty and the stadium has many seat unsold. Teach the B1G that nobody wants to be in NYC
