I'm not a big fan of the trend, but from what I understand teenagers love this stuff so if it helps in that regard, I can deal with it.
 







Brought a friend (very casual fan of college sports) who initially asked which team was the gophers...then said "aren't the school colors maroon and gold?"

I do admit when I first turned the TV on in the 3rd quarter, I thought we were the team in white.
 



gophers will be in white jerseys for the white out, that is for sure. But pants, helmets, face masks, and helmet decals are up for discussion and will be the subjects of decisions to be made.

I think best option will be G/W/G.

Hoping the MN fans in attendance will also go with gold as it will contrast better than maroon next to all that white in the nose bleed seats where the visitor section is located.

Went to the game with my daughter who is a U of M student and she asked me why the Gophers were wearing black. I just had to reply that apparently it's "what the kids like". She wasn't a fan of the jerseys.

I thought the same upon first sight. At first, I thought the color scheme was black and white with red trim and thought WTH? I then realized the trim was maroon...a saving grace.
 





I like the variety, but these were AWFUL.

NEVER again, please.

Those uniforms were awful.

There was maroon on the helmets if that satisfies your friend
 

Ok, I honestly don't know this.

I know that schools have contracts with specific companies to provide uniforms, etc. But I don't know how that works from a financial standpoint.

So - how much does MN have to pay for a full set of uniforms?
Is it worth the expense for a 'specialty' set of uniforms that might only be worn once a season?

Yeah, I know. Looked black from the stands. Only close up scoreboard shots where you could tell there was maroon there and around the numbers.
 

In a world where TV contracts are soon to be paying in upwards of 9 figures to the Gophers… I am perfectly willing to let PJ, Coyle, and the U decide if an extra set of uniforms are cost effective or not.

The “gee, these uniforms might be wasteful” argument seems so Minnesotan in a time where each college football locker may soon feature a personal masseuse.

His friend couldn't figure out that the team with the "M" and Goldy Gopher on the helmets was Minnesota. I don't think we need to worry about what he/she likes. :p

I think the school is actually paid (not paying) by Nike to wear the uniforms. So I would think they are free.

Brilliant post. :p As I posted, this was a very casual fan of college football. Didn't know who Gophs were playing.
 


And actually it is the Las Vegas Raiders and their colors are black and silver.
 

Black isn't my favorite look for the Gophers, but without design experimentation, we wouldn't have Goldy heads on golden chrome domes. And we would all be poorer for that.
