NEB vs NW Game Thread

Two days away from some B1G kickoff!

So are we all NW fans on Saturday? šŸ˜†

All seriousness, Iā€™m interested to see how good Neb is with all of their transfers. They had some great gets. Just hope NW will give them a good game and nothing will be more hilarious and make my weekend than to see Frost lose in their season opener!
 

Fitz finds a way to a win for his squad.
 


I was in Omaha for a couple days this week and got to listen to some shows. It was interesting. One of their local sports guys thought they would rebound some this year. He predicted they'd be 7-1 and then lose the final 4 games to end the regular season 7-5. I couldn't help think of how their expectations have slid over the last few years.

They sure make a big deal out of those black shirts they hand out to some of the players.
 



First, I hate Iowa with the heat of a 1,000 suns. (I grew up an Iowa State fan. No love lost between the two Iowa teams)

Next, I hate Nebraska with the heat of 900 suns. I watched the 1983 Nebraska beatdown of the Gophers 84 -13. Osbourne left the first team in until half way into the 4th quarter so he could run up the score. The BASTARD.

I hope Fitz (or anyone else at any time) scores 100 points against Neb. I will be watching Saturday with great hate in my heart.
 



There are many distractions that happen when teams travel across the Atlantic to play football.
I grant that Northwestern's team lacks the talent that Nebraska's team has on paper, but more focus by a better-coached NWA team may lead to an upset.
 





I have a hate hate relationship with Nebraska. They slam a round peg through a square hole by believing their team represents purity and hard working Midwest values. And in reality they have just always seemed a bit shady to me. Questionable character players, some of whom are allowed to play right up to their trial or sentencing dates. And Frost is a fraud.

I am really looking forward to the NU/NU game Satā€¦ for all the reasons already mentioned but mostly because I love college football and I am starving to watch a game.

Thatā€™s the secret. Beat Nebbie by a single score every game so they wonā€™t fire Frosty, prolong the Husker agony, and keep them irrelevant. Itā€™s Genius! šŸ¤£
 



Northwestern ā€œshouldā€ never be good. Yet they sometimes are. No idea what Neb and Northwestern will look like.
 

I hate Nebraska and this is why I want them to win enough to keep Frost around for 1 more season. Them going 7-5 would be better than a disasterous season from my perspective. New coach could revive that program in a few years. Frost will continue to slowly kill it.
 

Will Northwestern not have a functional QB again this season?

Situation is kind of nuts.
 




Really not sure what to expect in this game. I've heard a lot about how Northwestern isn't really good this year, but I try not to underestimate Pat Fitzgerald. Everytime they seem to be taking a step back, they go forward.

Mediocre seasons in 2010 and 2011, followed by a 10-3 campaign with a Gator Bowl win. Losing seasons in 2013 and 2014, followed by a 10-3 record. 3-9 for 2019 and then 7-2 in 2020 with a Citrus Bowl victory and a West title.

Not saying they'll get 10 wins this year, but I think it's always possible for a Fitz team to make another squad's day miserable. Kinda hoping that's the case in the game against the Huskers.
 


The Husker fan on Mrs. Billd's side of the family is there with his wife and kid. They were really looking forward to the trip. I like these guys and they will host us in Lincoln in November, but certainly hope all goes great except for the game. Go Cats!

What was worse after the 84-13 beatdown was the Nebraska fans wearing red and sporting cowboy hats at Grandma's bar and saloon (RIP) after the game!

Pretty much how I feel as well. Will be interesting to get an early peak at two of our division foes.

Agree with everything except I don't think Nebraska wins by that much.

You may be right, and most of the preseason predictions agree with your sentiment....but....

2018 they were good - 8-1 conference record
2019 they sucked - 1-8
2020 they were good - 6-2 (Covid year)
2021 they sucked - 1-8
2022 - ?

Teams fluctuate on a year to year basis but they have been on a pretty extreme roller coaster the past 4 seasons.
