2023 LB Drew Wilson commits as PWO

Will see what this fall brings. I'm sure he'll gain weight without issues. However, if he really improves, perhaps an official offer is in order to compete with the smaller schools such as St. Thomas etc. if we still want him. School isn't exactly cheap. Hopefully though he wants to play in the Big 10.

I thought St Thomas couldn't give out football scholarships (Pioneer league)?

they don't, but I do think St. Thomas will give out finacial packages based on income...could be wrong though

Still would likely cost more than the U for a Wisconsin kid. Plus a PWO could end up on scholarship eventually.

Haven't they given out "Leadership" grants for years? I believe they can be very creative without actually giving out scholarships.

Many private schools have a much lower bar for academic scholarships and other identity group scholarships as well. Not sure if this is true of UST.

The Pioneer Conference is a non scholarship, just like Division III. There are 2-3 teams in the Conference that are better teams then the MIAC, the rest would be middle. Only 1 or 2 kids had a scholarship offer coming out of HS in there first recruiting class for UST

The financial aid package for athletes in non-scholarship leagues make up for the difference. I had a friend who went to Princeton to play football. Don't get me wrong, he was a very good student. It helped that he was a stud football player. His school was paid for.

At first, Twitter blocked his picture until I accepted that it might "contain offensive material". I guess it was either the word "committed" or that he has a very violent pose with closed fists.

How did he get it all paid for? Was he low income?

Ivy schools have such huge financial endowments that most students get some or all school paid for. My understanding, anyway.

Not at all...both his parents were teachers....Ivy League (and similar non-scholarship conferences) use this as a way of attracting good athletes. Watch Princeton basketball....you think all those player's parents can afford to send their kids to an Ivy League school?
