Future Non-Conference Opponents

Agree. Bring in scrub teams from recruiting rich areas like Florida and Texas. At least the program gets some extra exposure there.
You think playing Jacksonville state instead of bowling green has any impact on recruiting?

you’re dreaming

What they have now is about right. If the program elevates, aim a little higher. Miss State isn't cream of the crop, but to get an SEC team to travel north is progress.

It's more than difficult enough. North Carolina will be loaded with talent and Miss St, BYU were both successful programs this year. I have no idea where Cal will be in 2028.

Remember, the Big Ten plays 9 conference games while the SEC and ACC only play 8, so Big Ten teams are getting 10 P5 games a season and mostly eschewing FCS games. We have to price in Minnesota playing Michigan State the week before the Axe game while Bama is playing Chattanooga and Georgia is playing Furman.

I think it’ll cost the MAC game or mountain west game more than the FCS game. Because you need to buy home games and FCS games are cheaper to buy

With the Alliance, B1G and Pac12 will go back to 8 conference games at some point in the near future in order to schedule two nonconference games with each of the other conferences. Actually possible to do next year as there already is a Pac12/B1G game scheduled for most teams. There are some sec/Big XII noncon games in out years that would need to be looked at...

I think the Alliance will start to impact the scheduling more and more. Next change will need to be to drop back down to 8 conference games in B1G.
Really hope that's not the case, moving back to 8 conference games would be a giant mistake.

I don't know much about New Mexico State's stadium or game atmosphere - thinking warm mountains though. Does anyone know if it's worth the trip?
Depends on what you want to make of it and if there is anything else you wanna see in that part of the country. The UNLV game a few years back was terrible stadium but awesome city to go to.

Why? They will still play 10 P5 games. To really take advantage of the Alliance, that's what needs to happen. I agree without the Alliance scheduling it would be, but huge flexibility and advantage with the Alliance to be able to schedule big match ups at the beginning of the season.

Here's a look at our future Non Con Schedules

2022 - New Mexico State Aggies, Western Illinois Leather Necks, Colorado Buffalos
2023 - Eastern Michigan Eagles, @ North Carolina Tar Heels, Louisianan Ragin' Caguns
2024 - North Carolina Tar Heels, Rhode Island Rams, Nevada Wolf Pack
2025 - Buffalo Bills, Bowling Green Falcons, @BYU
2026 - Eastern Illinois Panthers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Akron Zips
2027 - San Jose State Spartans, @ Mississippi State Bulldogs
2028 - North Dakota Fighting Hawks, California Golden Bears
2029 - @ California Golden Bears
2030 - North Dakota Fighting Hawks
Most intriguing road trips for me are Miss. St., UNC, and then Cal. I think all would be pretty fun.

I am not the first person to make this comment but next year's home slate isn't great. Our best game is Iowa which is in late September. Only having 2 home games after October 1st is also too bad. Back to the topic on hand, it would be fun to visit both BYU in 2025 and Mississippi State in 2027.

Classic Minnesota schedule. Put a bunch of tomato cans in there and then get in the big ten and……. It’s the same thing every year. Even in 2019 with huge dreams on the line they lost to Iowa and then let Wisconsin come in and pound there asses. That train is never late. Next year will be the same thing as always.

Boomtime, are you back?

Nope. I’m just a noob. Live on the border in river falls so I get both sides of the fence.
Next year the Gophers have Colorado, Western Illinois, and New Mexico State.
Wisconsin has Washington St., Illinois State, and New Mexico State.

Almost identical on paper. With the Big Ten having 9 conference games now you're not going to have as many opportunities to play power 5 non conference games.

Another data point - MIchigan next year has UConn, Hawaii, and Colorado St. Not a single power 5 opponent.

Agreed weak non conference for the badgers but that is kind of rare. In the last 6 years. Lsu twice Alabama and the Irish. Meanwhile the gophers play nobody

2023 schedule with a bowl eligible MAC team, a trip to North Carolina and a top-25 Louisiana team is a sneaky tough slate.

I'm really hoping to make the trip to Starkville in 2027. Fun that we're getting an SEC team to actually travel.

California Golden Bears does absolutely nothing for me. I mean, I'm glad it's a P5 team but personally I think I'd prefer to play any other Pac12 team.
Cal is a game I love! Can't wait, too bad it's so far out.

Agreed. I was at that game last time. I believe it was cal. If I remember right it was a Thursday night game first game of year and the gophers lost but it was a really competitive game.

The train appears to be having some problems the past four years with keeping the axe in Madison.

It was a Saturday morning game. Decker got drilled on what would now be targeting.

I think he came back in and played? Not sure that would be targeting, as the commentators said, violent hit no doubt but he actually turns and hits with his shoulder into Decker's upper chest.

Crown of his helmet hits Deckers jaw. Pretty clear. But who knows these days what targeting is

Boy, I don't know, turns his head and side of helmet glanced off Decker's. The shoulder impact snapped Decker's head back fast. Definitely a violent hit and amazing Decker holds on.

IF I remember correctly, Decker broke his jaw that play - it was from the helmet contact. Not from a shoulder hitting him.

BTW - don't mean to re-hash any arguments here but for the record, this hit was totally legal when it happened. Targeting rule didn't start til 2013 and this was 2009.

The rule was changed in 2013 to add the ejection. The announcers were talking about whether it was or wasn't targeting in the video posted.
