Note buried in here about the Monticello Mauler at end of this Jeff Wald piece:

This coming Saturday, offensive lineman Conner Olson will set a school record with his 52nd straight start.

side note...Wald does a nice job getting Gopher news out

I mean, awesome for him. He's a friggin beast.

But also not really fair, given that he will have gotten to play in five seasons with none of them having season-ending injuries.

52! That’s great. What an asset he has been.

That was not the point, although you are correct.

Point was: prior to the covid exemption the only way to be able to play in five seasons was to have a season-ending injury in a season and thus be granted a medical hardship.

This record won't be on the books long. I predict it will be broken within a week.

57 (or 58, or 59) would be a record that may never be broken.

Could be impossible in the future without a schedule change, unless the Gophers are going to multiple consecutive CFP Championships.

That's the trick - to set a record like that, you have to be good enough to start as a Freshman, but not so good that you leave early for the pros.

PJ did a great job recruiting him 🙃
Has to be true right? We had nobody on the team when he got here. 😝

This record could end up being like Cy Young’s wins record. Unbreakable without another event like covid or major changes to the length of the football season or eligibility years.

If all postseason and conference title games count, 60 is the max based on playing in CFP title every year, starting all 4 years, never missing a game, and not going to NFL. One could tack on 4 more games as a redshirt for a total of 64. If they don’t count, it’s flat impossible.
