$5 Bits of Broken Chair

Not according to Faux Pelini.
The first trophy the Minnesota fans built disappeared and Nebraska coach MIke Riley held it after a victory. After that, it was lost and Nebraska fans built another one that we have today. Not sure where the original one went, but it seems to have been in Nebraska's possesision when it went missing. What did Faux Pelini say about it?

Everytime Fleck beats Nebraska he is ecstatic. I feel like he still holds the program in high status like they used to be and being a Midwest kid, maybe he routed for them growing up. There’s definitely something there, but it’s great to see a coach enjoying doing well at his job.

@FauxPelini just as long as we can turn that $5 or bits of broken chair into a trophy for next year's game — Goldy Gopher (@goldythegopher) November 20, 2014

Prior to the game, some University of Minnesota supporters went ahead and created that trophy. It was brought to Lincoln for the November 22, 2014 game and returned to Minneapolis after a 28-24 Golden Gopher victory.

The trophy was proudly displayed at University of Minnesota events by Goldy until the following year when it was transferred to the Husker squad. Nebraska players celebrated the 48-25 victory by passing the trophy around the locker room.

Leading up to the 2016 match-up, rumors began to circulate that the athletic departments of both Universities were planning to retire this unofficial tradition. Nebraska defeated Minnesota in Lincoln by a score of 24-17, but the trophy was nowhere to be seen.

For the better part of the next year a group of Husker fans, feeling a responsibility to the rivalry, plotted to recreate the vaunted symbol of friendly competition. With a new trophy in hand, Husker and Gopher fans are collaborating to use the trophy's popularity to benefit charitable organizations connected to each University. "

How I remember it? Gopher Athletics gave lip service to keeping it. Though they did talk about maybe having too many trophies already.

Nebraska Athletics flat out said it wasn't a trophy and they didn't want to talk about it. Or about either of the Pelinis for that manner. Though give Mike Riley some props. ;)

He hates Scott Frost because Scott Frost is a douche so he likes to make Scott sad.

Oh yeah, for Midwesterners PJ and my age, we grew up during Peak Nebraska and the idea of the Gophers beating them even once was unimaginable. I grew up in Nebraska as a little kid as a Gopher fan and the first CFB game I ever attended was Nebraska 56, Minnesota 0 in Lincoln. I was 8, I wore a Gopher jersey, and I cried.

Never imagined Nebraska being both a conference foe and also having a significant winning streak against them. It's a sweet win for me every time.

I love the history of the other trophies we have (you can't beat the Axe, Pig and Jug). However, I love the story behind this trophy. It is a true social media/internet created trophy that should be honored (if not officially, at least unofficially). I also like the fact that we starting this trophy off with a solid winning record.
