What’s going on from a Purdue fan

Well, the problems yesterday were entirely on offense and special teams with a lot of negative credit going to the coaches. The only good thing from yesterday's game is that the defense has now played two consecutive good games after opening with two mediocre ones.

I don't know what to say. Our offense played reasonably well in the first three games but was horrific yesterday. The much vaunted big, veteran offensive line was really bad and was undone by a much younger and smaller defensive line. Our QB now appears to be a shell of his former self and, unlike Purdue, we don't have a backup with any experience. Our two best receivers barely played and the remaining ones rarely created any space.
cjbfbp, may I introduce former starter Zack Annexstad? Mr. Annexstad, please say hello to cjbfbp.

I generally think coaches/coordinators get too much blame when things go south, but I feel lot of saturday woes were on PJ/Sanford approach to the game

Every single team that runs a 3-4 base defense (not saying Purdue does, I don't know), that doesn't run exactly the defensive gameplan that Bowling Green ran against us, is insane.
Yep. Pretty easy to game plan against someone conservative.

But watch out for the Gophs if we have a 4th and a three from our own 32!

I was expecting to fear you with faalele back. Fleck has had brohms number.

are there boatloads of injuries that are hitting one unit or many units hard? Are you so weak in one area like our offensive line that it’s just crippling you?

or is bowling green a great non p5 team?
Obviously Mo's out for the room, but Potts is plenty capable. Autman-Bell and Wright have dinged up at the WR spot, but honestly after those two and Daniel Jackson there's just not a lot of depth at that position. Big Dan had a very bad game at Bowling Green, seems to have trouble with stunts and smaller lineman in general, can't go through him, but you can definitely go around him. Otherwise The whole team took a shit on the field Saturday, really no excuse for it, the guys that are suppose to lead this team the oline, and Tanner have played a lot of Big Ten Football and there's no excuse for it. We play like that every week we will lose out, if we play like we did two weeks ago, I'll just say the schedule lines well for us the next few games, if the offense can play to their abilities. Will see what happens on Saturday.

ZA was the starter for 2/3 of a year, I personally don't care for him, but it's been three years and he has experience

Yes, I remember him and the fact that I didn't bring him up pretty much reflects my estimation of him. In the 4 Big Ten games he started, he completed 49% of his passes for a per attempt average of 5.6 yards, had 5 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, and was even less mobile than Tanner. However, it must be said that he was an improvement over Demry Croft the season before.

I'm not sure who is the answer if Tanner stays in a funk but I have little faith that person is Zack.

I don't care what you think of him. You said we have no other QBs with any experience. Not talent or ability; experience.

Not that it matters. You have a great day.

We are also celebrating Bob Diaco clone at offense side of the game. He is called Mike Sanford. Doing as well as BD has done at many stops. That's all you need to know abt our offense. When Purdue hire BD I laughed. Not sure i should laugh or angry rn.
That surprises me because diaco was a function of brohm not having much of a network. I’d assume fleck does have one.

how’s the health of autman-bell looking?

Any word on whether David Bell is playing? He may give us fits if he does.

Again, not that kinda post. I don’t think about what coach fudd obsesses about. Fleck does remind me of Larry from threes company though.

Bell was out on concussion protocol against Illinois. I don't know if that will carry over to this week though. Probably won't know until close to game time.

Maybe there is more but only thing I found doing a quick search was a comment from Brohm after the Illinois game saying Bell was in the concussion protocol but was very close to returning for the Illinois game. If he was close to being able to play against Illinois than odds are probably pretty high he plays against us. But concussions are tricky so you never really know how a guy is going to respond.

I would say "just our luck" if Bell was able to play, but then again, 2 years ago, approx. 16 Boilermakers got injured on the same play against us.....

Come on.. first off I was the rare 2 year old who idolized Larry… second, you don’t see the resemblance? Fleck looks like he could be the serious son who resents Larry for giving him a rep as Larry’s son

I'm thinking Brohm reminds me of Uncle Fester.

Larry was a hip, hip guy. All the girls at the Regal Beagle thought so.

As they say on To Tell the Truth, "Will the real Gopher football team please stand up?"

Are they the team we saw against Colorado or the team we saw the next week against Bowling Green?

Yes.

I hope Bell plays. Don't need excuses from Purdue. We should be capable of beating them with Bell. If we can't, we have more serious problems.

You left out 2 other choices, are we:

1. The team that gave Ohio State all it could handle in week one
2. The team that dominated the first half against Miami OH before playing a terrible 3rd qtr
3. The team that dominated a power 5 team on the road
4. The team that couldn't generate any offense against a mediocre MAC team

Usually after 4 games you have a pretty good idea of what the team is going to be like but for the 2021 Gophers I would argue we have no clue yet what the real version of the team is going to be.

Heck, even on defense we went from zero pass rush of any kind for 2 weeks to living in the other teams backfield in the next 2 weeks. Can't chalk that all up to opponents because one of those first 2 games was against a MAC team.

There is a lot of talent/experience on this team. My gut says this is still a team that can contend in the West. Will be very interesting to see how things go against Purdue tomorrow. Hopefully the Bowling Green game was the wakeup call the team/coaches needed to get them fired up and focused on the remainder of the season.

I'm thinking Brohm reminds me of Uncle Fester.

I'd say a little more like Michael Berryman in The Hills Have Eyes.

Fester was silly, good humored, and likable; things I don't associate with Brohm.

How hot will Brohm's seat be if he falls to 1-4 against MN and Fleck? How hot is his seat with Boiler Fans already? Who is the home run hire for Purdue?

The home run hire, whether as head coach or OC for Purdue would be the one and only Drew Brees.

The 2019 Gophers could have started out 0-3 and then got their shit together. I see Gophers having a couple good games going into the Maryland game.

What's going on? from a Minneosta fan

I was expecting to fear you with David Bell and Doerue back. Brohm was due to snap a 3 game losing streak to Fleck?

are there still boatloads of injuries to other guys? Are you so weak minded that when the field shrinks in the redzone you shit your pants and it's just crippling you?

or is Minnesota just a great Big Ten team?
