Correct, Sling is not in the free trial business anymore. They're well enough known, and they know most people just use a free trial to get a channel then dump it after a game.

Fubo on the other hand, is not well known and willing to give it away just to get their name out there.

I had a free trial with Sling TV just last weekend. I was signing up via roku, which was a pain and didn't work, so I had to manually call them and cancel, but they offered a 3 day trial for free. Maybe that's only with roku? I wouldn't do it though, even the sling tech support guy said there are issues when they get customers via roku.

Fair enough. If you go to Sling's website directly, there are no free trials.
 

I just signed up for the free trial on Fubo. Can’t believe how expensive Fubo is. Would be almost $100/month if I kept the service as you need the sports extra package to get the pac 12 channels. Will enjoy the game tomorrow and dump it after
 

Right. When the streaming services started out originally, they were novel in how cheap they were while still providing access to the top X most popular cable channels.

Now ... they're creeping ever more close to just being cable without a cable box.

Which makes sense, because that's how they make the most money: force people to buy channels they don't watch. That was always true, and is why the cable and satellite companies did it.
 


I have been calling all the local sports bars to see if they even have it. No luck yet. I may have to either illegally stream it somewhere or go to buffalo wild wings where they are more likely to have the channel.

Update: got fubotv free trial. What a day.

Just had it out with Comcast to no avail. I have the Preferred Package that if you go to the channel lineup it lists Pac 12 channel. I know it wasn't their intent, but I figured it might be worth the fight. I initially went on chat and chatted with someone who said his name was Thomas. He agreed with me that I should be getting Pac 12 and it must be a glitch. (He used that word). Sent me over to tech support that went nowhere as I could never actually talk/chat to a human.
I gave up on that and called them. Connected with some overseas operator who was mechanically nice, but said I would need to upgrade to the sports channel lineup. I told her that it's listed on my channel lineup. Why can't I get it? When I started to discuss dropping cable because of this, she sent me to some stateside representative. I thought I could pressure them into some type of free trial because there lineup is misleading. Made all kinds of offers like 30 days premium channels but no Pac 12.
Guess I'm going to have to go the Fubo route.

I added the sports and entertainment package on my comcast account to get Pac 12. $9.95 but it's pro rated so when I cancel tomorrow night I'll end up paying like 50 cents.

The Comcast rep you chatted with didn't know what they were talking about. Only markets inside the 6 Pac 12 states get Pac 12 on digital preferred. If you live in the metro area of a Pac 12 school it is on digital starter. Everyone else has to add the "sports and entertainment" add on.

That may be the best idea and information advanced in this thread! I have Comcast and the sports and entertainment package so I do have the PAC12 channel. I got the package because Comcast had the gall to shift Turner Classic Movies to the sports and entertainment package after it had been a free offering with the service for many years. But, I didn't know that add-on packages were pro-rated. I'm going to keep that package because I want TCM but if I were just doing it for a one-shot game that would be a great deal.

I know that. Thought it might be worth a shot because of a technicality. They didn't buy it.
Thanks for letting me know the Sports Package is pro-rated.

Little did you realize the fine print on the pro-rata is a floor of 50% of the monthly charge! :devilish:

(I made that up, but seems like something Comcast would do)

Full disclosure. I'm not 100% confident on the pro-rated aspect (probably 75% confident). That's what I was told from multiple reps and I have succesfully done something similar in the past when I wanted to watch ESPNU, but it's entirely possible I was given bad info and their policy has changed.

After all the hand ringing I decided to update my Comcast with the Sports and Entertainment package for $9.99. I'll probably keep it for a little while to see how it works into my viewing schedule. I like the TCM option so it goes farther that sports.

No shit, with the dopey looking dorks dancing. Or the constrant stream of "if you have moderate to severe blah blah blah". Or maybe those aren't on normal/sports channels. They're about every other one on Discovery and History and those channels.

I do miss TCM. When I made the switch to a new package I was told I would keep all my channels...but discovered not TCM.

Made no sense relative to everything else in that package but I do have HBO, Showtime, and Starz...the first 2 I've never paid for...now for less that I was paying before the switch.

Radio will be on at the Billds.

But - the point is - I found a free stream of the game and it worked OK with almost no buffering.

So, if you don't want to go for the free Fubo signup, this could be another option. I am very leery of anything that requires a credit card to sign up - got burned on one of those sites before and wound up having to cancel my credit card and get a new card.

(hopefully we don't have to listen to more brain-numbing music during commercial breaks....)

Fubo's going to have this surprise subscription and cancelation spike coming from Minnesota tomorrow. They are used to it I'm sure..."I only wanted to watch one game" is a reason they display for canceling.
