Miami University is in Oxford Ohio about an hour northwest of downtown Cincinnati. Considered one of the prettiest campuses in the country it has an undergrad enrollment of nearly 20,000. Member of the Mac. Considered the the most selective of the state universities in Ohio for admission. Large out of state enrollment. Nicknamed the cradle of coaches such as Paul Brown, Ara Parahegian, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Sean McVay, Randy Walker, and a host of others. The football program has been average lately. Ben Rothlisberger is the most famous player of this era. Campus is near the Indiana border and closer to Indianapolis than Columbus

It is also one on the 5 schools to produce both a President of the USA and a Super Bowl winning QB (Benjamin Harrison and Ben Rothlisberger).

The other 4 are:

Stanford - Hoover & Plunkett/Elway
Michigan - Ford & Brady
Navy - Carter & Staubach
Delaware - Biden & Flacco

A couple of other notable coaches to pass through Miami include Jim Tressell and Terry Hoeppner.

No, it is not Miami (OH). That is a lazy designation to differentiate it on an ESPN scrolling ticker. It is Miami University, and as we like to say, the "real" Miami. Miami University was founded in 1809, long before both Florida became a state (1845) and the University of Miami was founded (1925).

It is named after the Myaamia Indian tribe, since relocated to Oklahoma. The Myaamia tribe is also the namesake for the Miami river and Miami river valley (which Oxford, OH is located in). The former mascot was the Redskins, but more recently changed to the RedHawks (one word, Hawks capitalized).

One MN tie is that Tom Petters donated $5 million to the business school, which Miami returned after his 2009 conviction on fraud. It was part of a $10 million commitment he gave to create the "John T. Petters Center for Leadership, Ethics and Skills Development". Yes, he donated money to a center for ethics; you can't really make it up. He attended Miami as a student.

Absolutely gorgeous campus, and not anything like most of the other MAC schools. Proud Miami alum, and will be sporting my Miami gear in addition to my Gophers gear on Saturday.

Lot of fraternities founded there...The off campus student houses all have names...I remember Tito's and Tata's was near Bottomless Margarita's...

Other notable people who attended Miami of Ohio -
Tina Louise (Gilligan's Island)
Musician Mojo Nixon
Nick Lachey (98 Degrees)
writer P.J. O'Rourke
and of course, former Timberwolf Wally Szczerbiak

I always get Miami of Ohio mixed up with Ohio University. BTW, former Timberwolf Gary Trent attended Ohio University, where he had the greatest nickname of all time: "Shaq of the MAC."

This thread is underrated. Glad I opened it an read through it. Great Miami tidbits.

Visited a friend there in college once and went to the Miami vs. Marshall game which featured Roethlisberger vs. Leftwich. Beautiful campus, nice stadium, fun time had by all.

Sidenote: I bought a nice Miami shirt in the bookstore the night before the game that was orange. I later came to find out that wasn't one of their school colors (cue angry boomers!)

They had a stretch in the mid 70’s or so where they only lost once in around 35 games. Quite a run.

You forgot to mention the hot chicks. Tons of good looking ladies at Miami.

A really good bagel shop in Oxford too. Bagel and Deli.

I have seen the concept replicated in a few different cities by various Miami alum.

The Ivy of the MAC, Gopher fan and Western Michigan grad. Went there for a game when I was in school, remember running back, Deland McCollough who was pretty tough

The only one worth noting is Ginger. As a wife Maryann, but for a good time? Ginger all the way.
No, it is not off topic. That question is never off topic.

Petters was very generous with other people’s money.

Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives and Ayn Rand aficionado Paul Ryan is also a Miami University graduate.

Changed team name from Redskins to Redhawks in 1997.
