Howden

Yeah I honestly have no clue what happened to him. Don't string me up for this, but his injury is likely just as -- if not more -- impactful than Mo because there's zero depth at safety.
I think it was Dixon that played a little, he's just coming from back injury and hasn't practiced. Should be able to get him reps

I agree. Way more depth at RB, more highly recruited scholarship guys to step up. People are ragging on Cal Swenson, but he’s pretty good for a guy who came here as a walk on. Very good open field tackler; really good in fact. But doesn’t have the wheels to keep up with an Olave or Garrett blow by—especially when he’s got to respect a play action fake first. Fact is, we don’t have a lot of quality depth a DB. That is a huge problem against OSU; might not be for the majority of our remaining schedule.

From PJs post-game presser, it sounded like a concussion. He said the medical staff "removed" Howden from the game.

My Dad also saw the injury live and thought head-related.

So I rewatched the game last night and it looks like Howden went out a play or two before our interception. But he is definitely laying on the ground near the sideline and appears to be grabbing around his hip area.

At this point, I think it may be a hip or a groin. Hopefully not major

How long will he be out with a "hip concussion?"

I thought it was his moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.
Common side effects include upper respiratory tract infections, pain at the site of injection, rash, and headache. Other side effects may include serious infections, cancer, anaphylaxis, reactivation of hepatitis B, multiple sclerosis, heart failure, liver failure, and aplastic anemia.

Calvin Swenson is Alan from 'Remember the Titans'. He can play with Miami Ohio, and Bowling Green, but Ohio St is too fast & athletic for him. Don't be surprised to see plenty of Swenson though the next few non-conference games, but Flip Dixon and/or Darius Green should get more snaps & bypass Swenson as the season moves forward. Hopefully Howden is back soon.

Ive been hard on Howden the past few years, watching AWjr11 bail him out a lot....but watching the downgrade when Swenson was in there def changed my mind for this season.

Correct.

Aune is another one.

They’d be stars at North/South Dakota State. Is what it is 🤷‍♂️

Howden has really improved a lot over the last few years. He was absolutely a liability when he first saw snaps, but he has come a long way to where is today. Now we are talking about how valuable he is and lamenting the huge drop off behind him. He deserves big props for the hard work and dedication in making those strides.

The highs are high. The lows are low. Let's kick them into the gutter when the lows come. Praise them and put them on a pedestal when they make game-changing plays.

That is life as a Gopher fan. The Gophers are who they are, a team trying to separate themselves from lower-tier to mid-tier. It will come.

Is Ortiz a safety?

Is Ortiz a safety?

He's playing Safety, but is likely to move to Nickel next year after some guys graduate. Ortiz is not a serious option for us at Safety right now. He's behind Swenson, Dixon & Green.

Swenson can play reasonably well against a lot Big Ten teams, too. Just can’t be last line of defense against OSU’s hyper-drive WRs. I trust Swenson to tackle in the open field. But not to cover Chris Olave, who is blowing by him on a play action pass. Problem on these plays is lack of pass rush …

He got double moved and beat. That will happen to a lot of guys. 90% of the time he'll have the ability to make the play but 1 on 1 against Olave should have never happened. Coach should have seen the set up and called TO to adjust/get right guys in right position. That probably should have happened on a couple other occasions as well but as coach says when you fail you learn. Hope the game tape serves them all well.

I wondered if we could have switched to a combo coverage and had Durr one on one with Olave?

The truth is, if Harrison Smith was matched up against that WR on that route for that long, it would be a massive mismatch. Swenson had zero chance, it was a perfect play call by Ohio State at the perfect time.

PJ said in today's presser that Howden is good to go
That doesn't mean we can forget that Swenson went in when Howden went out.

I hope that gets fixed, in the mean time, before we have to play another difficult team.
