Week 1 Other Games Thread

They weren’t that good last year. They played a dogfight against a bad Wisconsin team as their best win.

the gophers lost to that same Wisconsin team in overtime two week later
Indiana got exposed by .500 Ole Miss in their bowl. Their wins vs Penn State and Michigan also aged poorly as the season went on.

Why does Iowa always have this swarming type of defense? You just have to earn everything. It doesn't really matter who they play, you have to earn it.

It's kind of baffling. They replaced a lot this year and look as usual.

IU is reverting to the mean. Last season was a fluke. They will be bad again this year.
Indiana didn’t deserve last season either. Their QB never reached the End zone against PSU, and they were given that early W that they did not earn. Without that W, they were merely a solid team last year, no more than that.

I should have bet more on football this weekend. A lot of my preseason assumptions have come true so far:

  • Minnesota is great offense and sketchy D (actually bet Over and won)
  • Wisconsin isn't so hot
  • Rutgers is good
  • Indiana will regress

I bet heavy on Auburn to cover -36.5 against Akron we'll see how that goes.
Yeah week 1 is a great chance to make money for those who follow CFB in the off-season. Some of the lines are head scratchers. I've lost some bets, but I've won way more so far. Illinois last week, MSU last night, PSU today, Army. My last action is Louisiana covers +8.5 at Texas and ND -7 tomorrow on the last two legs of a nice little parlay.

Jayzus. Another pick six by Iowa.

About as awful a first half as you could get for IU. Will be very interesting if they can change something up at the half and try to make a game out of it.

the systems mean a lot. Iowa and Wisconsin have systems that don’t change year to year, and that consistency keeps them from big annual swings. Players know the system and their role in it. i hope the U can get to that point and soon. Our O might be close, but our D has some organizing to do

This is a fair point. PSU wins the game if they take a knee instead of scoring a TD.

Yeah. People think Minnesota was completely disappointing last year. They essentially played Indiana’s best win even.

difference was Minnesota didn’t have a kicker last year.

Indiana will be lucky to make a bowl this year

that too. But even with that big mistake, IU never scored the “winner”

OMG another pick.

They need to sit him. Just change something. They had a plan ... it's not working. Try something else.

Everyone is human, everyone has a bad day. That's what I'd tell him ... on the bench.

They beat one team with a winning record last year (4-3 Wisconsin)

Wow! Iowa making the "new Indiana football program" look like the "old familiar Indiana football program"
Corn City is usually good for at least one of these "hyped team comes in, and loses" type games a year.

Iowa and Wisconsin are basically plug-and-play with wrinkles added to a system that is well-established. It allows them to sacrifice some raw athleticism for guys who fit their base system.

Iowa now plays on Duke Slater Field.

I had never heard of him before but I looked him up. Awesome dude.

Hopefully we can build something similar.
I call it a "Culture of Sustainability".

Miami OH down to Cincinnati 0-35 at the half

It is an old rivalry game. Cincy is ranked #8

Step 1, replace all of the plastic straws in the Athletes Village with paper straws. Step 2, learn how to execute a defensive scheme.

Holy Shit! Where is the guy who didn't think Iowa has a defense as good or better than tOSU?

Let's let this play out more than a week.
Penix is 8 for 20 with 3 interceptions
Indy has 16 carries for 50 yards.

Good defense, but something tells me this Indy offense isn't in mid-season form.
