I don't think it is odd that Christian didn't play the last two games. The Gophers played two top 25 teams. Christian does not have the experience, composure, and skill set to play big, high pressure games. She may be able to light up the basket in shoot-arounds but hitting them in a big game...
It is the coach's job to find ways to keep 3rd quarter letdowns/crashes from happening. Third quarter letdowns happens too frequently with Gopher women's basketball.
Kudos to the Michigan State coaching staff for making great adjustments during halftime. I think the Gophers went to Dairy Queen at halftime and were late showing up for the third quarter. G.G. and Braun missed the team bus. McKinney was awesome but couldn't carry the team; she needed some help.
They need more than that. They need a least one Impact player like Hanson. They need one of the hitters to make the big step like Hanson did in her Junior year. It would also be nice if someone on defense became an Impact player, too. I am still hoping that they pick up an Impact player from...
That depends. If people are leaving because they are unhappy and disenchanted, that is bad. If people are leaving because they can get a promotion and career advancement, that is good. It says that the program helped them develop and is respected.
I have been involved with a lot of...
I probably shouldn't have used the term "blue chip." I was thinking more in terms of "Impact Players." Teams that reach the upper levels in the conference or NCAA have an impact player and teams that reach the final four often have more than one impact player. I define impact player as...
I agree that she is a long distance sniper. She likes to stand on the Sara Scalia honorary square and jack up threes. But, it is not working this year. It seems strange because I suspect that she shot tons of 3-point shots while rehabilitating. I can understand her being reluctant to attack...
It is because of the Lake Wobegon syndrome. We think all our kids are above average. We think that we can win with mostly Minnesota kids. Whalen was naive enough to listen to Coyle and influential alumni that we should heavily recruit Minnesota kids. I remember the announcers on BIG saying...
They missed McKinney. Their team work was out of sorts. I think Heyer, Battle, and Braun were like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The stable bread is gone and the remainder is soft and amorphous.
Teams are being very cautious about players getting blows to the head these days because of all the information about the long-term damage of concussions, especially to football players. It has trickled down to many sports. Hopefully, the new vigilance will help athletes participate longer in...
