He could. But, again, it will depend on roster space and money. Limited resources likely doesn't allow a lot of freedom on paying someone to redshirt, or hold a roster spot for that matter.

It is more likely Shinholster is waiting to see if the Gopher coaches will have space (and money) for him at this point. If they do, he will probably stay. If not, then to the portal he goes. I'm sure the Gophers are still kicking the tires on a few guys in the portal.
