Just took Wisconsin to the title game. Unless you put Wisconsin on the same level as MN, that’s also more impressive. What he just did is definitely more impressive than what Bob did at MN.

Hastings, the obvious choice Coyle and the Gopher hockey power brokers passed on when they hired the coach they just fired.

Also, I think what Hastings did at Mankato was more impressive than what Motzko did at SCSU.

Just took WI to Frozen Four for the first time in 16 years. He’s still coaching, Bob is not. I think he’d still be coaching at MN if he was hired instead of Motzko.

I honestly don't think Coyle had much of a choice with the Johnson hire.

A hire that will end up being a shockingly pleasant surprise to most Gopherholers. Or, a hire most Gopher hockey fans didn't know they needed.

He’s not a middling coach. You’ll see what happens at SCSU after he’s left. He’ll be the best Gopher coach since Lucia and Brooks.

It’s coming from the fact he coached his team to a national championship in just his second season. He’s also been a part of 3 other national championship games. His successor at SCSU will do much worse. Larson will bring the long needed toughness to Minnesota.
