I think with outstate players, one of the issues in evaluation is strength of competition. when you're watching a kid from a metro school going up against other metro schools, the level of competition is more even. I've seen kids who look phenomenal because they're just more gifted than the...

    New House Settlement Option

on the "athletes as employees" front - (warning - includes politics) - the NLRB lawyer who supported the athletes as employees idea has been fired by the new President. draw your own conclusions about what this means. from Sportico: Jennifer Abruzzo, the general counsel of the National...

All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Twins Off-Season Thread

what is everyone going to complain about when the team has new ownership? Look - I'm not thrilled about the current situation. but I understand that - for at least the next few months, it is the status quo. It's not going to change. the Pohlads are not going to wake up tomorrow and say...

add Auburn to the list. picked up an offer today, according to his Tweet. also had a recent in-home visit from Kansas State. the position choice is going to be interesting. listed as 6'4", 215lbs. that's pretty light for a TE. I'm sure he could add some weight/muscle, but at what point...

What is Coyle's, "keep Ben, win tally?"

the Question in the OP is essentially - what is Mark Coyle thinking? we're talking about Mark Coyle - the Ghost AD. he's more of a rumor than a real person. he pops up like the Groundhog every once in a while, makes some vaguely positive comments to Justin Gaard, and then retreats back into...

WTF? Are the Gophers actually good?

I would say - The Gophers are not as bad as some people were making them out to be. that is NOT the same as saying they are now a "good" team. Better than Bad does not = good. but - if you look at the B1G standings, 12 of the 18 teams have 4, 5 or 6 losses in conference play. it's a...

Minnesota’s Corey Hetherman new defensive coordinator at Miami

so the DC from Ohio State moves to Penn State - for a 3-year deal at $3.1-million Per Year. the entire assistant coaching salary pool for MN for 2025 is $5.5-million. (or it was reported at that figure - how it changes with Hetherman leaving, Collins to DC and Kane joining the staff....idk.)...

    New House Settlement Option

Pompous - I get your point. the NCAA is tap-dancing on the head of a pin with these rev-share MOU's. Players receiving direct payments are being treated as de facto employees, but for legal reasons, the NCAA wants to say they are not employees. as to whether it gets challenged in court...

    Favorite Minnesota North Stars memories

I was living up in the Cities in '81 when the Stars made their first run to the Stanley Cup Finals. a bunch of people I knew would get together to watch games on TV and attended some games in person. that was a fun club: Bobby Smith, Steve Payne, Hartsburg, Christoff, Dino, Don Beaupre...

All Things MN United Season Thread

meanwhile, all is apparently not rosy in Loons-land with at least one player: Minnesota United and Hassani Dotson have not been able to agree to a contract extension over the last few months and Dotson’s representation has requested a trade away from the Loons, sources confirmed to the Pioneer...

    New House Settlement Option

but it's two very different types of payments from two different sources. that's what I was trying to say. Direct revenue-sharing from a school is not - IMHO - the same as an NIL deal from a collective. the revenue-sharing is - in principle - a share of the revenue generated by the school...

MN HS Basketball 2024-25 Season thread

I was at a wacky game Friday night. Windom beat Redwood Valley 100-97 in regulation. Lukas Means of Redwood Valley scored 54 points. He's scored 50 or more in back-to-back games. He's a 5'9" guard. really fun to watch.

CFP Title Game Draws 22 Million Viewers, Down 12% From Last Year

stating the obvious - this was the first year of the 12-team playoff. If they do NOT change the schedule, I think people will get used to the game on MLK day - just like people have gotten used to the Super Bowl being played later and later. the 1st Super Bowl was played on January 15th...
