Look, Nadine and the other folks who run this site are blind to the fact that the Gophers made a DEI hire and it didn't work out. This post will get deleted and banned for saying so. But if you think you're able to make a fair post on this site you are kidding yourself. Many of us have been...
Can't think of any names mentioned seriously that I would like less than this hire unless you count Saunders which no one seriously thought was a possibility. Otherwise I would prefer everyone else mentioned.
Literally no one with a brain ever considered the cost of the buyout a few years down the road. It's meaningless. The only thing his salary currently means is he was wildly overpaid for what it would've taken to get him + it shows we could've gotten an actual proven coach with a good track record.
Because one was the hottest name in coaching and could've picked where he wanted to go... the other couldn't get a mid major head coaching job and was wanted by zero other teams.
The point is that if you're hiring someone based on how easy it is to fire them in a few years, you should be fired right now for even considering that in your hiring.
Coyle desperately trying to justify this and sounds like he wasn't prepared to be questioned. Why in the world does he think that Johnson is going to be a great in state recruiter? Bamboozled. I wonder if the many head coaches he consulted were our rivals
