    Gopher volleyball 2024

I hardly know how to respond. You write I "had nothing to add," and then defend your prediction as "not incorrect to state the obvious." If you believe you were stating the obvious, maybe that's not adding anything either?

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT NORTHWESTERN IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I have enough trouble reemmbering the past. And now you're asking me to "remember" something in the future, or some hoped-for conditional prediction about the future? Oy!

I do so appreciate your humility in admitting you were in fact wrong. Not many people would do that. Plus your ability to see the humor in how wrong you were is absolutely remarkable.

Now that it turns out Awoleye is in fact coming back, does this mean you have some inside information that Landfair is coming back too? (Just kidding.)

    Post-season eligibility

With the new WBIT (32 teams) and the WNIT (48 teams), 148 teams will be playing in the post-season. At 15-14, the Gophers cannot finish below .500, which presumably would make them eligible. If invited -- and given the injuries and the finish, that might not be likely -- should they accept?

B1G Game 18: Gophers Visit Penn State

It seems that every two years lately, the StarTribune has an article about the worst losses in Gopher women's basketball history: March 2020, January 2022, and probably now again in March 2024. Ouch!

B1G Game 18: Gophers Visit Penn State

Is this really a story about you witnessing Caitlin Clark, or is it about Caitlin Clark? The title of your post turned me off.

***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT IOWA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

My bet is your study would show it happens about 10% of the time. (Isn't that what +90% to win means? That is, that it'll be a loss 10% of the time?) As for MN teams, that's another question.

    B1G Game 5: Gophers host Nebraska (1-14-24)

A few random observations: The Gophers "motion offense" sometimes lacks motion, both by players and by the ball. The Gophers rarely fast break. Hart's ability to shoot with either hand is terrific. (Someone wrote she didn't shoot well today, but she did go 4 for 7.) Sanders gives up her body...

    B1G Game 5: Gophers host Nebraska (1-14-24)

Battle certainly made a great three at the end! But I think Sanders gets the team into their offense more quickly. I think often Battle dribbles for the first 15 seconds, too often leading to a desperation shot someone has to take with the clock running down.

Taylor Landfair has entered the transfer portal.

No one has commented either her or on VolleyTalk that Keegan's streak of never having a player transfer has come to an end. It was probably inevitable. I suppose one might still say he has never had a player transfer during their first four years, or maybe no player he recruited has transferred.

NCAA Second Round: Gophers v. Blue Jays (12-2-23)

Did anyone else notice that in the early warmups before the Purdue match at the Pav, Taylor Landfair was wearing a brace around her midsection? When they came out for the second part of the warmups, it was off.

NCAA Second Round: Gophers v. Blue Jays (12-2-23)

As someone who knows very little about the game, it seems to me that when it comes to tips, some are offensive tips (where you're tipping in order to win the point) and some are defensive tips (where you're tipping because it's the least worst option). My impression has been the Gophers' tips...

    B1G Match 20: Gophers host Nebraska (11-25-23)

On the figstats rankings that include the bonuses, the Gophers have moved up to #40 after the Nebraska loss. That's going to get them in the tournament.

    Weekly RPI 2023 Season

    Strength of schedule stats are so weird. Purdue's SOS rank is #7; Minnesota's is #28. But the RPIs for their non-conference opponents are not what's causing that discrepancy: Purdue's - 10, 12, 20, 22, 24, 31, 52, 57, 65; Minnesota's - 2, 6, 8, 12, 17, 28, 55, 56. Why Purdue's SOS rank is...
