Games like these are the reason why I can never fully get behind Fleck. It seems every year there’s one game where we get horribly out-coached and it usually costs us any potential ranking and a higher tier bowl game destination.
Why would you run the ball, use your last timeout, run the ball again on third down, and make it so your FG unit has to sprint out there and rush the field goal?
Fair points, there have been some bangers week one. Personally I’d rather give teams a week or two to prepare so that the games have a better chance to live up to the hype. Even if that means a boring week one. But I understand I might be in the minority for that.
