I was one of the guys who complained, early on, that in 2019 we weren't throwing to the TEs and RBs enough--that our offense wasn't diversified. But I think the OC saw what he had in those three wide receivers and just poured it on. He fed the big dogs every chance he got. The WRs were often...
I hadn't wanted to count the "ins," but your point is well taken. I'll adjust to "net" available spots count. Worth knowing the "net" spots available once the transfer portal opens on January 2 and some new "ins" start coming over.
A couple of the TE on the bench were highly-ranked, and are B1G-sized and very athletic. One has seen a lot of participation on special teams, I believe. Just haven't seen the field because of Seniors Geers-Biber-Bierman this past year. If Dehnicke moves to the U, some of the team's depth...
I agree. The “standard” is not Johnson and Bateman (and Autman-Bell). That was IMHO a unicorn year. That was an tOSU level year. In 2019, our WR corps of Bateman, Johnson and Autman-Bell ranked as the numbers 1, 2 and 35 WRs in the B1G.
By comparison, this year’s dominant Ohio State receiving...
I think the RB situation as interesting as the WR one. With Fame having declared for the portal, he is off the roster now, right? So, with Fame and AJ Turner (season-ending injury) out, it’s Cam as first back-up and then Washington and/or Ford. True Frosh might see some significant snaps.
Look at Roy’s stats as a RS FR. He’s developing faster than Ersery. No way, after another year of maturation for Roy, we’re going to find a better LT than him. He’s the new keystone of the OL. It is going to be tough enough to find a competent RT.
I believe that in 2019 Johnson and Bateman were the No. 1 and No, 2 WRs by yardage in the B1G. That is not going to happen often for any team, even tOSU.
At the moment (12/15), the carryover roster from this season to next is as follows:
WRs: Javon Tracy; Jalen Smith; Bradley Martino; and "Nuke" Hayes
TEs: Pierce Walsh; Sam Peters; Julian Johnson; and Jacob Simpson
Entering FR are:
WR: Rico Blasingame, 4* 90; Quayd Hendryx, 88; Josiah Dozier...
Added Malachi Coleman. Darn, I thought the had a chance to dominate, just on size mismatch metrics alone. But if you throw downfield as little as the Gophers do--despite having a QB who can heave it out of the stadium--not much chance to develop that role.
To date, that's 7 WRs and 4 TEs out...
