I felt bad for that student who was the sideline reporter on B1G+ last night for the game. She was clearly nervous as heck and forgot everything she was supposed to say every time the PBP crew handed it down to her.
I know Gopher basketball won't miss me, I'm not important in a silo as an individual fan, yadayada. But I suspect the small percentage of supporters from 10-20 years ago who are still even remotely checked in to the program are like me:
This team is not nearly interesting enough of a watch, not...
Yep. Its a team game but if they lose Brosmer will be the reason.
Sails a throw on 3rd down 10 feet over a wide open Jackson that led to a short field TD for PSU.
That dumb*** interception he threw to a guy who wasn't even open.
And that boneheaded fumble.
Inexcusable from a senior. Inexcusable.
Michigan beat this same team by 50 points and they're expected to be middle of the pack in the conference this year. So.. yeah that's not a good sign.
Frank Mitchell, Patterson, and Odukale legitimately aren't Big Ten level players. And Edmonds isn't either if he can't even get regular minutes...
They've never been an efficient scoring team though with this main core of players. 4 of the 5 starters were sub 40% on FG last year which is the mark of very inefficient shooting.
There are going to be many games that the Gophers are going to be held in the 40s and 50s this season. Doesn't...
For the record, I think (likely we all think) Ben needs to be gone at the end of the season. But for whatever new coach we get, collectives, businesses, and donors: please please give him better NIL funding to work with because it'd take a miracle coaching job to put together a tournament team...
-Odukale can't dribble, take care of the ball, or hit the broad side of a barn
-Patterson is far too slow, short, and unathletic to get any separation to score efficiently at the B1G level
-And Rigsby is 5-21 FG on the year and also doesn't look like he has good handles or explosiveness to be...
The Gophers started 3 guards tonight that wouldn't even get minutes on most good high-major teams in Patterson, Rigsby, and Odukale. You can take one look at them and see they aren't B1G level players.
And Ben Johnson's half court offensive sets are fireable.
I don't mean to be negative but this is really really poor basketball on both ends tonight. Hard to watch.
The positive is that Mckinney is really asserting herself. She looks like she'll be an active playmaker for the Gophers for many seasons.
Really hard to extrapolate any conclusions from this one. I am not kidding when I say a decent 5th or 6th grade boys travel team could beat this UMass Lowell squad.
41-14 at halftime and one could argue that the Gophers should be up by quite a bit more.
I have a few connects to the program and some friends who've recently played high level P5 volleyball and they all echo that this is not a well coached team. That's concerning to hear.
