Going back about 20 years prior to that - I think Sid (who died in 2020) may have been the last person alive who personally witnessed Bruce Smith's spectacular 80-yard-run vs Michigan in 1940.
The Minnesota 0-6 loss to Northwestern in 1936 was the Gopher's first loss in four years (there were some ties in 1933). The Gophs were still National Champs because of a NW non-conference loss to Notre Dame in their final game of the year.
Thought that the Gophers 7-0 win over Michigan in 1941...
I'm in a 50+ bracket entry pool - with some very experienced NCAA BB watchers and some who maybe have heard of Duke and that is it. I happen to know the person in first place, the lowest basketball IQ of anyone in pool. All she did was go chalk on every pick.
Exactly. Unfortunately it has become a "dog-eat-dog" mentality with no contracts, only a one year commitment
- the D1 mid-majors will grab up the good looking D2 prospects
- the upper level D1 teams (Big East, Gonzaga, etc.) will grab for the mid-major players
- P4 Schools grab whatever they...
And if Creighton can somehow beat Auburn (leading at half), the conference will fully be exposed. (However Florida does look very good). And something tells me that Wisconsin may be the first to fall.....
