Daquein McNeil has been arrested for domestic assault

Mason will be a more likely candidate for more minutes at the 3 than Buggs in my opinion. Yes we would be undersized but it would give us 3 ballhandlers, which is more important to Pitino it would seem. Mathieu, Hollins and Mason were all in the game at the same time for a couple of minutes on Saturday night.

I think Mason was going to get major minutes no matter what.... though Hollins would be the 3 in that scenario.

So you're against the indefinite suspension?

Being suspended vs kicked off the team is a bit different. I think the suspension is fine, until all of the facts are gathered. Then they can decide to keep the suspension, kick off the team or allow him back.

That's my thoughts as well. Find out if it's a baseless charge, if the charge has traction then cut him loose. If it's a baseless charge then welcome him back.

If he actually did lay hands on whoever it was, then dump him, no need to wait for a guilty verdict in this situation. Just need to know if he caused any harm at all.

From a pure basketball standpoint, we now go into a critical three game stretch with 8 guys who appear to be able to play at a high level (Konate and Martin aren't quite there yet) and heck, Buggs is just starting to get there.

Whether we get McNeil back or not, it really underscores the bad move the staff made by adding a JUCO (Lofton) this year when we could have really used that body, even before this McNeil mess started. At best we have 10 scholarship players for the NIT. At worst we have 7 guys who are ready to compete against St. John's/Gonzaga. If McNeil is off the team for any considerable amount of time, we will have to rely on Shell for meaningful minutes.

No doubt we could have used McNeil chewing up minutes. We are still better this year though
Last Year: Austin, Andre (injured), Mathieu, Smith, King, Oto, Mo and Elliott (8 players using most of the minutes)
Lower quality minutes: Mav, McNeil and Buggs

This year: Andre (uninjured), Mathieu (a year under his belt), Morris, Mason (unexpected surprise), King (improved), Buggs (a few quality minutes each game-not as good as Oto yet), Mo (much improved) and Elliott
Lower quality minutes: Konate and Martin

It hurts for sure but we are still in good shape and if he did what he was accused of doing, good riddance. We are thin at guard, but my gosh the players we have are awesome.

Hopefully it will all be cleared up and he won't face any charges. If not...he's dead to me. Cut him loose and move on.

Yea he's done here.

With charges like that he may well remain on the team on the suspended list, but he ain't playing, so we're going to be shorthanded for awhile.

Raise your hand if you think we'll make it through the year with no injuries. We're now one injury to any of Mathieu, Hollins, Mason or Morris away from being screwed. Or at least having to play Tubby Ball with Joey and the 3 and Mo and EE playing together.

According to the arrest report, McNeil was picked up by Minneapolis police after a 911 call from his girlfriend, who told police that she fled a Dinkytown apartment after McNeil ripped her clothes off, beat her with a belt and choked her. According to the report, "Officers observed victim to have multiple bruising and welts all over her body."

WOW

Doesn't second-degree indicate the use of a dangerous weapon? And they are actually charging him, which means they have evidence. Like everyone said I will wait to hear the case, but if any portion is true I personally want him off the team.

The problem with giving Mason the SF spot for considerable minutes is that we lack depth now at the PG and SG. We can't sustain ourselves for 2 halves with out bench production to support Mathieu and Hollins.

Mason is the only ball handler that shows confidence in high pressure situations and I don't feel that role will be suitable at SF unless Dre takes some SF responsibility and Matthieu rotates to the SG to preserve the guys legs. So rotating the 3 guys regularly.

I assume Buggs will be at that spot some.

WOW

Yeah...not much gray area there. Awful.

McNeil was Richard's very first recruit to Minnesota, after committing to him at FIU.

Hope this isn't as bad as it sounds.

Where/how do you find that info?

If true, he gone.

What is it with some of these people??

Unreal

Sounds like maybe the belt would be a weapon in that case?

Didn't Pitino talk about how he's too quiet and lacks confidence? Contrast that with this....Yikes.

Unless charges are dropped or reduced SIGNIFICANTLY his career in Minnesota is over.

Have you read the allegations? It sounds terrible. Really hoping this was embellished by the girlfriend (highly doubt it though...she has significant bruising, etc). If not (likely) send his sorry butt packin.

Sounds like more than just a temper flare; it sounds straight sadistic.
