per WDRB:

Rick Pitino was eager to watch every pick-and-roll called by his son, Richard, the first-year coach of Minnesota.

Or maybe Dad was getting a head start on scouting for next season.

"I will let you guys in on the scoop of the year," Pitino said in an interview with me, Eric Crawford and Steve Andress of WDRB Sports.

"If everything goes according to Hoyle, we will open up on a military base with Minnesota on national television next season."

Where?

"We're working on that now, but it could be Puerto Rico if it all works," Pitino said. "We haven't signed contracts. It's a long way from done. But it could be on a military base opening the season next year."

Go Gophers!!

Just saw this and read the story as well, I for one would love it as it would provide big time exposure for the program.

Interesting. Something like this might give Rashad Vaughn a little more incentive to pick the Gophers. However, if we don't get Vaughn I don't see how we'd have a better team than Louisville.

Gophers would benefit from one of these primetime exotic locale games, even if it isn't against the elder Pitino. Hopefully it happens!

It'll be on an aircraft carrier. Location TBD. Go Gophers!!

Awesome! Hopefully they don't have an issue with the surface like the tOSU/Marquette game last year.

This makes the pain from today's loss easier to swallow. Hopefully we get Rashad so the game is competitive.

The aircraft carrier part seems to be pulled out of thin air.

It's not a true Aircraft Carrier game unless it is played on an aircraft carrier that is in motion in the ocean protecting our shores.

That would be fun, watching the players dodging jets coming and going!!!

and going through a time warp.

and going through a time warp.

I am looking forward to jets coming and going during TV timeouts. Will flight schedules determine when TV timeouts will be taken.? The National Anthem could really have a great Fly-over!!!

This would be sick. Didn't Rick Pitino say awhile back that he wasn't going to schedule a game with Richard though, or was that just with regard to a home-and-home series?

I feel like we're jumping the gun on this game. Unless our Coach Pitino can find a dynamic front court player between now and next November, the Gophers are going to have a hell of a time competing with Louisville. The exposure is great, but I feel like the game could have a much bigger feel (and more importantly, the Gophers have a much better chance of winning) if we held off for another year or two. I think it would be great to be able to sell one of the air craft carrier showcase games to Jarvis, Alex, and the rest of the 2015 class.

Everyone is pessimistic because we played like crap today. Would anyone have said in 2007 "yeah let's play Louisville next year, we'll win.' No chance. But we did win. We'll never be favored against Louisville. Let's play.

This is awesome, awesome news! But, lets hope we can field a competitive team next year so we don't get completely embarrassed in front of the whole country. A good game would do wonders for us!

Let's just be thankful that young Pitino has more faith, courage and optimism in next year and beyond than some on this site.

Right on brotha!

Just the coverage from E!SPN alone will benefit the program. Can you imagine how many little all in the family vignettes they would run? Get that kids face on the screen as much as possible.

SELL SELL SELL!!!!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the aircraft carrier games to open up the college basketball season were on CBS, which is even better in terms of coverage than ESPN. I'm interested to see where it's played. (Sounds like Puerto Rico is an option right now)

One problem: There are no current, future, or retired aircraft carriers stationed in Puerto Rico. The only military base in Puerto Rico is Fort Buchanan, which is run by the Army.

Maybe at Area 51?

I thought they made it seem like it could be played in Puerto Rico at the military base or somewhere else on an aircraft carrier.

Do you see the contradiction in your own post? If we'll never be favored against Louisville then we should just fold up our program because we're the Washington Generals. The program has been at the point where it was favored against Louisville before and it will be at that point again. Pitino vs Pitino is only showcase game sexy once, unless the game is a competitive one. I think the Gophers stand a better chance to make that game competitive and something major networks are interested in featuring on a semi regular basis if they wait another year. Coach Richard Pitino had said they weren't ready to play his dad for awhile (can't remember exact quote) as recently as late Summer/early Fall.

It will be great exposure for the program next year, I just hope we're at a point where we can take advantage of that exposure.

Maybe coach knows something we don't??? Eh?!? EH!?!?!!!
