lots of posturing going on now

I think Brad Stevens would be a fantastic hire (obviously), but I also think any style of coach can turn the program around. I'm fine with Shaka's run and gun style and defended Anthony Grant's plodding slow offense. It's not about the style, it's about the execution.

All of that said, a lot of posters who didn't like Grant pointed to his style of play as one of the main reasons. Does Stevens style of play concern those posters? He plays it REALLY slow, their offense was similar to the Gophers in a lot of ways.

Same with Shaka, Norwood knows Shaka. He has seen schools do what MN was rumored to be trying to do countless times. So that leaves two options. Norwood was simply so confident in himself he ignored everything he knew about Shaka under the assumption of "I can do this" or the big Shaka push was all speculation and/or intentional leaks from the dept for whatever reason you'd like to choose and/or Shaka played him for whatever reason and made him think he'd take it for sure.
Correct. You don't float a Shaka rumor or let it stand if you know Shaka's not coming. Unless...

But anyone didn't say them, did they? I did. What a lot of people did say was just regurgitation about Shaka and Norwood's great relationship. How'd that turn out? Believe what you want, but I'm the first person who referenced Goetz on these boards, and looky looky- people in Minneapolis covering the UM coach search are now realizing the connection.

Do you really think I sit around all day tracking Butler's administrative staff movements? I knew about her because the move was a means to Norwood's desired end. Like I said, Brad's been the target from the start and Goetz was step one.

I recall the thread here when Goetz was hired. Had very little response to it. Would be interesting to dig it back up though.

I still see Stevens as a long shot. Every program wants him. But there is an undeniable connection there and it wouldn't shock me if this had been NT's plan all along. He knows how this works. This isn't his first time around the block.

Yes, sorry. I meant in connection to the coaching search.

I know. Just saying we know of the hire. Most just quickly brushed it off as no big deal. Who cares we hired the budgeter from Butler. Most also forgot it as soon as Shaka rumors came out.

So why are we listening to Brad Stevens rumors from a VCU fan?

Lighten up. It's part of the fun. Maybe you and your Madison wine and cheese crowd have been listening to NPR too much that you don't know good lowbrow entertainment if it hits you on the face. :)

Same on the Butler side. Almost no mention. I think a lot of people (unfairly) assume that because Beth is a woman she's just involved in the ladies side of things. She's much, much closer to Brad and was much deeper in Butler basketball than Graves ever was. Graves departure is what most people focused on, while the Goetz hire went completely under the radar. On both sides. No offense, but Norwood has a reputation for scheming and this is classic Norwood.

IMO,
1) Stevens
2)Shockers coach
3) Buzz
4)UVA coach

Only on open chair for the best bball conference. Shaka's system would not win in the Big. Can Flip recruit? I trust NT.

@AmeliaRayno: Could be. RT @T2Green300: @AmeliaRayno new coach to be named today?

@AmeliaRayno: 99 % certain Shaka to MN? No. RT @bigbubba82: Guessing Woody thought Shaka was 99% certain while conducting Monday press conf.

@AmeliaRayno: Could be today or tomorrow. RT @mditty4: @AmeliaRayno You think an announcement is imminate? Before the tourn gets going tonite? #GoodTVPub

If nothing is done today , one would have to believe that Norwood and Co. have received indications from one or more of the coaches still coaching that they have some interest.

Barreiro went with this on Monday too. Saying that is what he had been informed but people he had talked to in the Indianapolis area thought there wasn't any chance of Stevens coming here.

Not saying I agree with the information but IMO too much Shaka talk though the talk was for the obvious reasons he wasn't the #1 choice.

Not necessarily at all, some people are grossly overestimating how fast this thing should be over. I'm not saying it couldn't be over very shortly but the notion that if it isn't done today that it is likely to be one of the guys still in the tourney is asinine.

Don't listen to that guy. He's out of his element.

HOLY CRAP, I laughed so hard when I read this my secretary ran into my office asking me "are you ok?" (actually happened)

I love coaching searches, I hope we never hire one.

Right. Keep in mind that whether or not Norwood's plan works is another matter from what Norwood's plan actually is. I'm sure he's got a backup if Stevens doesn't pan out, but the Shaka stuff was misdirection from the start.
