***OFFICIAL*** Game Day Thread @ UNLV 8/30

I'm so wired now - tomorrow is going to suck.

It wasn't pretty, lots of things to correct. but in crunch time the boys got 'er done. Gray completed a few passes when he needed to, although if he'd have hit half of the open receivers during the game we would not have been in OT. Anyway, night folks. Glad we won.

Radio guys are going to have a good time with this one.

Good night to this one.

Sweet dreams for a couple of days Gophers.

Starting Sunday time to ramp it up.

Fortunately ugly wins count too.

Go Gophers! In Kill I Trust!

wettstein sprinting around after the kick thinking his teammates would mob him yet only 2-3 guys bothered to "chase" him.

LOL!

Someone smack Gray in the face ala what John Henderson used to do with the Jags. Maybe that'll wake him up next game.

people gonna score a lot of points on unlv.

off to bed. Work going to suck tomorrow.

Any win is a good win for a young team. Any coach will tell you that the biggest improvement is from week 1 to 2. Let's hope this team improves each week.

ugliest win since I have been a gopher fan. but hey, we won woooooooooo
Didn't you see us beat Miami of Ohio in Brewster's first year? Or possibly Mase beating NDSU his last year as coach? Both were uglier. We actually played much better on defense tonight...

A win is a win. Have 3 more weeks for our offense to get it together before B1G play.

1-0 is 1-0 no matter what. Another week of practice and learning from mistakes. We're young. But man that was ugly. Bright side: 478 yards of offense.

Who the hell cares how we won. It was close, and we toughed it out! Ain't seen many teams who never quit in past 15 years.

1st place in the big ten right now! If the season ended today we would be in the rose bowl!

Our first winning record in 3 years!!!

Ok, all jokes aside... what an *UGLY* win...

As one person tweeted "an ugly win is better then an ugly loss"

Personally I think the Gophers have a good set of wrs, but Gray has to prove he can connect on the deep ones even though he had time and receivers who were open. Until that happens, it wont matter how good the receivers are.

Defense was borderline good tonight. Offense, well, that's something else. Brutal on 3rd down. Part of that is on Gray, but part's on Limegrover too. I know that Gray's the centerpiece, but when it's not working and Kirkland's busting off 10 yards every time he touches it, you may wnat to alter the game plan. Anyway, happy with a win, let's bust up UNH.

The gophers were starting football game at 10pm CT, and they were still playing at 2am (plus 90 degree heat). This was not a game that was set for the gophers to have an easy victory.

1st game of the year, and a win. I will take it.

Seriously, this was not what most of us expected. Take away that the offensive line allowed Gray to walk away after barely getting hit and couple that with the fact that the Gophers were all over their quarterback and even those most Vandelaian among us can see some reason for optimism.

I hope you are not serious. The good MWC teams will smoke these guys. With an average passer we could have had 38-45 points tonight IN REGULATION!

You know what the say, "a win is a win", but are their ever any 'ugly wins'? YES! this one.. how many mistakes?? how many mental errors?? UNLV didn't out play us or have better talent, they just played somewhat sound football, we shot ourselves in the foot literally from beginning to end, especially Gray. He could have thrown for 4 TDs if he could throw the ball, period, and quite honestly, I don't think another 2 years starting over Weber would have made much if any difference. He's a running Qb, never a throwing Qb. He's trying to throw first run second to attempt to up his NFL credentials. Someone has got to tell him, his chance at the NFL is NOT Qb. If he can, tuck and RUN and not just on predictable play calls for him to run. That's another thing, we became very vanilla and predictable, run run throw, run run throw, run run throw. Were supposed to have this hybrid offense that seems to do the same 5 plays.

On a positive note, defense played very very well, minus the personal screw ups, too many times we went with our b squad D and took out optimus prime for cameron botticelli.... wth?

Long story short, if I had to pin blame for our shortcomings tonight, I pin it on Coaching. Coach Kill and staff did not bring their A, B or C game tonight. Mental mistakes is, coaching. Personal choices is, coaching. Coach Kill isn't a recruiter he's a "coach 'em up kind of guy", well, COACH 'EM UP!!!!!!!
