Gophs want juco pg Julian Welch, prep f Henry Brooks but only one scholly left. But source says they have as many scholarships as necessary.

Thought this was an interesting tweet. Does this mean Tubby would force someone like Mav to transfer? Or would Tubby push Trevor or Rodney to go pro? I'm assuming it means force a transfer because I don't see Tubby pushing Rodney or Trevor to the NBA just so he can get an extra freshman.

I'm sure the staff has a pretty good idea of what Trevor is going to do.

How dare you insinuate the the staff might know more than our commentors on The Hole. With all of the people who "know someone on the inside who is close to the situation", SS you surprise me. :)

Keeping in mind that it's Myron, this is a pretty ominous quote. I sense we might have more than 2 scholarships to fill.

We have 3 for sure: Hoffarber, Nolen, and Joseph.

What are the odds that someone leaves? If you go on recent history, odds are quite good.

Spring departures have been standard operating procedure for the Gophers over the past decade. Sometimes a guy goes pro. Sometimes a guy transfers because he wants to. Sometimes he transfers because he isn't good enough. Sometimes a guy is a knucklehead.

It's just the reality.

The knucklehead is already in Oregon.:clap::clap:

We should make bets on who is going to leave...

I'll bet on Austin Hollins.

Trevor tweeted recently that he'd love to play for the Knicks after he "graduates". I thought that was kinda interesting. Doesn't sound like a guy thinking of jumping early.

Myron

Let us not forget this is Myron saying, "But source says..."

Who within the Tubby Team would be a Myron source?

That makes zero sense to me. Austin is getting decent minutes this year and will likely get more next year. Tubby seems to like him.

IMHO.

That seems doubtful to me. He appears to be the perfect fit for the Tubby Smith defense. I like his chances of being very good here.

I know Myron is not Tubby's mouthpiece, but I m hoping this tweet is an indication that Tubby is thinking that he's going to get the ballplayers he needs in here to win next year regardless.

???

What about Devoe's open scholly?

The Joseph scholarship is the only one currently open. Coleman and Andre have Blake's and Al's.

If Julian Welch accepts the offer this weekend when he visits that leaves us with zero.

He is set to graduate this spring... So it's not exactly early.

I bet the same things were being said about Devoe his 1st year.

Trevor Mbakwe would have a hard time making an NBA roster right now. Some of you are underestimating the jump from the Big Ten to the NBA. Cole Aldrich was a lottery pick as a 7'0 center and played in the D league for most of the year. If Mbakwe was as good as some of you guys think he is, this team wouldn't be on life support to make the NCAA tournament.

Might be Big Mo (hope not), Oto, EE, Halverson...RSIII, RW or Trevor...lot of unkowns going on...but I suspect that this is the year we don't lose anyone except to graduation...I pray Tubby signs a Juco PG....

Halvorsen is a walk-on (not on scholarship).

I was just joking - seems the unexpected always seems to happen, and he is one player no one talks about in that way...

I thought Halverson was a transfer and had to sit out this year...if he was a walk on...why would he need to sit out the year?

He was on scholarship at Valpo, so he has to sit out a year when going to another DI school, even as a walk-on.

EDIT - sorry Goldy, posted right after you:)

Scholarships are for only one year. However, I would be willing to bet that Tubby has an understanding with Mav, Chip and Oto (all late signees) that their scholarships would be for a year and then review. If Tubby has better options all three could be gone. If not, all three could be here. Nothing wrong with that as long as both sides know up front.

The scholarship will most likely come from Ralph after he declares for the draft....

This approach has worked wonders for Tom Crean.

I could be wrong... but Otto is not on scholarship this year since he didn't qualify...? So he takes Devoe's?
