Don't get me wrong, I'm not knockin any of you, I know you're only doing what you're supposed to do, obligated to do, when it comes to defending productions like this. I get it, completely, i'm not going to criticize anyone for that.

If I may ask, why do you suppose Nolan made the casting decisions that he did, particularly with regards to E. Page and the ugly woman as Helen of Troy, both radical departures from being historically accurate?

No one has defended the movie. We're criticizing how ridiculous you and others are being. Most normal people rate the movie based on how much they enjoyed it after watching it.

Why someone was cast for certain roles is about #186 of reasons why I like or dislike a movie. Not sure if you are aware but The Odyssey is fictional. Helen of Troy likely did not exist.

because the character isn’t real and he liked working with Page in Inception? It’s mythology, what “historical accuracy” are you going for?

Go read the Odyssey my dude, Homer isn’t exactly throwing out physical archetypes for all these people. They should’ve fucked up everyone’s teeth. No one is Greek or Mediterranean (part of the whole why one should just as mad casting Matt Damon then if we’re wanting to claim the “historic” angle). They use modern dialogue and American accents.

Have you ever seen a Nolan movie? He wants to tell a large scale epic story with great visuals with good acting. People bitched when he cast Dunkirk historically accurate with an all British cast.

If this was an actual historic event (say it’s Alexander the Great), sure have at it. It’s a movie based on a myth where the author didn’t even say what most characters looked like that’s been translated by people in their best estimate of what he said
 

I'll watch The Odyssey eventually, but I'm not a Christopher Nolan fan. The only thing I really liked that he's done was Dunkirk, and that was more about the subject matter than anything else.

Dunkirk was solid. I wasn’t super crazy about Oppenheimer. Memento I thought was quite good. I like interstellar more for the subject matter as I like science fiction. Used to think more highly of inception just for the concept. Lot of people love The prestige so maybe I’ve got to rewatch that one now that it’s been long enough I’ve forgotten it. I’m not a Batman guy so that strikes much of his work

Personally, I would have Memento at the top but "The Dark Knight Rises" was sensational storytelling for me as someone that never got into comic books. It didn't hurt that the presence of Bale and Hardy also dominated the screen.
 


Despite having the audacity to include a couple black and gay actors in the cast, it sounds like "The Odyssey" is arguably Nolan's best film yet. Had a huge opening weekend and absolutely incredible reviews from critics and fans alike. I can't wait to see it.

Watched The Furious last night. Non stop kung fu. Actually think it’s not as good as The Man From Nowhere and The Killer, which have similar story lines.
 

Just heard from a friend, who's big time conservative, that the Odyssey on IMAX was "Incredible", in his words. Said it's must see.

So you really don't give a damn about the merits one way or another about the actual film itself, have zero intentions on seeing and just wanted to infiltrate the Off Topic board with shit talking trash that is in abundance on the Political board.

literally the first review looking right now on RT is "it's woke ass cheeks" followed by "skip this sodomite, transgender shit" if you look at the "all reviews" heading

yeah, sure sounds like they're filtering. they just go through the work on verifying before putting that on the main page and it's also a way for them to fish through their company (fandango) to rank movies. Same reason why Melania has a very good score on its verified rating as well. Just removes troll people somewhat. It's part of why most people look at critics and audience score to form a balanced opinion on seeing a movie if they care to look at reviews.

i've heard from a couple of people it was pretty good and to see it in imax if you can. Seems to me like it would be the way to watch it if you're going to. Maybe i'll look and see if I can carve out some time given I like the subject matter. would be curious to hear from anyone here who ends up seeing it what they think

Yes. Just seems kinda odd that they feel the need to fight SO damn hard to convince people that this movie is "epic". Why all the games?
