All things golf

Speaking of golf/gambling, is there absolutely anything better than winning money on the golf course? I can barely think of anything. I had a great week/weekend last week at my club's big annual Member-Guest tournament and it got me thinking...

Damn, I remember taking $2 from my HS Chemistry and Shop teachers, or a measly $6 or $8 from a great player up in Reno one time, buddy/client, who was so sure he would win he didn't have any money on him when the game was over.

What is better than winning money on the golf course? I always remember the words of Paul Newman in "Color of Money" when he said "Money won is twice as sweet as money earned". Hell yes

Shop Credit.

Always wonderful to see on the Monthly Statement.

No doubt some cash on the books in the pro shop is a good thing. You gotta be strategic with when you use that though.

With all of the "guests" in town for the tournament last week and so many people getting money in the pro shop to spend, I told my partner to just let it sit for now; either use it later this year when he visits again or I'll just use it before it expires. I figured the shop would be overrun and picked clean by the end of the weekend.

Most of the money was "straight cash, homey" with the money from the Calcutta auction. Or as Cooter from the "Dukes of Hazzard" said one time, "it's COB, cash on the barrelhead"!

Late season wins in Minnesota can be problematic, all the good merch is gone.

One year I think I just bought 8 golf gloves, figuring they would be used eventually.

Better to do that than a polo shirt you may never wear. And damn I go through some gloves. I remember a round in the summer a year or two ago, in the Vegas summer heat, I was rotating four different gloves from perspiration. Yikes!!

A lot of good courses on here. I love the Bandon courses but I've never seen this many of the Bandon courses ranked THIS high; they've been in the top 75 or so but these are super high. I've played 7 of the top 14 here, which surprises the shit out of me but that's weighed heavily by the Bandon courses

I'd love to say this looks like the face of one of my irons.... but I'd be lying

I didn't get very many of these but I got Jon Rahm, Tiger Woods, and Barkley. Pretty damn good by Rory I must say

Watching the Barkley swing reminds of a good video I stumbled across a year or more ago when I was taking lessons and of course finding every possible video to screw up anything I learned in class as soon as possible. Although there are a few good tips in here.

His swing has drastically changed through the years.

When it comes to golf lessons, Tiger told Chuck that he should spend more time reading the greens.

This is pretty typical of young people these days. Mistakes happen, but it’s no one’s fault but your own.

He didn't exactly throw anyone under the bus though either.

Fighting through that to shoot -1 for the day even with that, pretty impressive.

I saw that too. What an absolute clown. Lost all respect for him there.

It's a major championship, respect the game. It's Round 1, get to the tee on time, dumbass.

Ironically, YES, it literally IS your job to show up for your tee time in a timely manner

Your fellow competitors, Pro Shop staff, course maintenance crew, PGA officials, tournament volunteers, event merchandisers and the fans all managed to show up on time, douchebag...but apparently we simply ask too much of you.

Our bad, Garrick.

Did he bitch & moan about the penalty? Did he blame anyone for it? Didn't sound like it from the clip.

He had his caddy attending to his truck. Obviously not the most ideal time for that task. Maybe it was accidentally parked in front of a fire hydrant.

He doesn't like to stand around the #1 tee before hitting. He effed up, sucked it up and even with spotting the field 2 shots went out and shot 1 Under, T15.

How much respect did you have for Higgio prior today? If you got paired up at your local club would you have known who he was? Props to you if so.

I never heard of Higgo until seeing this post. South African. In 7 previous Majors he's made the Cut 3 times. Best finish T47, The Open in 2022. No wonder he was a stranger to me.

I'm rooting for the guy. If I see anything other than this short stand up that turns me off, I will re-evaluate.

Otherwise sounds like great theater to overcome a pretty big gaffe. They make movies out of stuff like that.

Had he merely owned up to it, and everything you said in this post, I would be with you 100%. The comment that it's not his job to show up for what actually IS his job? Dumb. Like super dumb. Doesn't really show a lot of respect for your playing partners either really

I'm not going to overreact, I don't really care either way, but I agree with GII that this is basically the thought process for many of the younger generation. Not a great look really.

It does suck for his playing partners, thus the 2 shot penalty was deserved for Higgio in accordance with the rules.

I hope Higgo apologized to Shaun Micheel & Michael Brennan profusely and bought them their favorite post round beverage of choice.

Nobody told me Ogie is doing instructional videos now.

That's one thing I try to almost never do, give any lessons. If someone I'm playing with asks, I may take a look but the last thing I'm worried about when I'm playing is how someone else in my group is swinging and how they are playing.

I remember some old story, one of the young up-and-coming players got paired with one of the old greats like Sam Snead or Hogan in a practice round. Kid played like shit, and felt compelled to apologize to Hogan afterwards to which Hogan replied something to the effect of "Why on earth would I care what you are doing or how you're playing?"

The PGA Championship comes through again with an unheralded winner who I had never heard of before this weekend.

Welcome to the Rich Beem Club, someone named Aaron Rai. Have you met YE Yang and Shaun Micheel to go over the Secret Handshake?

2 glover.

In light of additional information with Higgo now sacking his caddy, I have done a 180 on the issue.

Perhaps the caddy it better off looping for someone else.

"It's always somebody else's fault."

Not many people like to be held accountable for anything these days.

Well the Caddy (Austin Gaugert) was yelling at his "boss", Higgo.

Of course if I were in the same position, I would hope like hell my underling was "yelling" at me (respectfully) to get my ass in gear, but that's just me.
