Liebentritt Commits NE Safety

I think he’ll be a 4 star by signing day.
OK, this is one of my posts that someone will probably bitch about but honest question:

How in the world can you project this player to potentially be a four star safety? His offer list has Iowa State and a bunch of little small programs. By offer list, this is not really a big-time recruit at all. 100% honest question…

He has his senior season to raise his rateing. He’s 88 now and 89 is 4 star.

Wild guess is it would take more than Iowa State and Minnesota offers to do it.

Now that he committed to Minnesota, why would other P4 schools keep offering? They may well do it anyway, I don't know, just seems like a waste of time.

Other than Nebraska, I would think he would flip to the in-state offer, but why wouldn't they have offered by now if they were going to.

PJ historically has done a great job identifying talent and getting in early before they take off

Bateman is a prime example. Aaden Aytch last year was a 3 star, 658th ranked and ended up a 4 star and 181 overall. He's held on to his fair share and lost others. McMorris and Benjamin last year ended up being 4 star OTs by the end. To a lesser extent Walker and Jilek were in the boat til Texas offered and flipped them.

Right on!

Thank you. Good post with some relevance.

He has no previous connection to MN and we don't know why he committed to begin with. Was it because he absolutely loves Fleck and the program (like Bateman) or did he commit because he feels it is the best option right now and doesn't want to wait too long to lose the opportunity? Players switch all the time as they get "better" offers.

Looks like they have a commit from a higher ranked safety already in their class.

I suppose you're right.

I guess the more correct thing I should have said is that it makes no sense for other P4 schools who are at the same level generally as the Gophers to keep offering this kid.

But P4 programs at a higher level that say suddenly lose a safety, could come after him, that is true.

Or he has a big senior year and blows up a bit.

Genuine question that I'm guessing folks here could quickly and easily answer:

do we have any recent examples of a high 3-star kid who committed to us before his senior year having only Minnesota, Iowa State type of offers, then had a huge senior year, "blew up", and got offers from helmet schools and then flipped to one of those?

I'm not a football recruiting expert but my 10,000 foot view is we don't start recruiting too many four stars unless they are from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Dakotas or it's a legacy thing....so everybody who has flipped in the past qualifies. That is quite a few guys as signing day is always a long ways away and we haven't even had the BBQ yet. We have a nice class!

Rashod Bateman was a high 3 star who didn't have a bunch of high major offers until his senior year when he was already committed. Promoted to a 4 star and the big boys came after him late but he stuck to MN.

This is a specific and narrow time line and criteria.

I'm not going to go through all the dates but there's 100% been guys who were 3 stars that the Gophers got in on early before they turned into 4 stars and ultimately ended up at bigger schools

2025
Nelson McGuire was committed here as a 3 star, ended up de-commiting and being rated a 4 star while picking up offers from Florida, Ole Miss Florida, aTM, USC, Auburn, Clemson among others before ended up an Aggie

Zac Stascausky was also a 3 star, decommitted and committed to Washington and was upgraded to 4 stars while picking up offers from Oregon, Michigan, Georgia and ended up being a Duck

Last year McMorris and Benjamin were bumped to 4 stars while picking up good but not necessarily helmet school offers

I'm too lazy to look beyond 2 years ago but I'll always State that PJ does an amazing job identifying talent and getting in early.

That's not quite the scenario that would be required for Liebentritt, though? He would have to get upgraded to 4star during/after his senior year, then decommit and re-open his recruitment (all but guaranteeing he would go elsewhere)

This is your fictional scenario you're making an argument out of now. Per usual

I'm out of this.

Huh? We're talking about a completely non-fictional scenario of exactly this specific player referenced in the OP.

He's a high 3* with only Minnesota and Iowa State offers, that at this point can only get upgraded to 4* if he has a really great senior high school season. I don't see why higher level P4 programs would suddenly offer him before his senior season, but I guess it's not impossible.
