All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I've wondered about that, say a kid gets 1 million bucks at a big budget school out of high school but didn't pan out. I assume the agreements are year to year. Their school says you are welcome to stay but we only have 300k in the budget for next year. His agent comes in and says I can get you 600k and you'll see the floor so go for it.
It has to be that, right? But with the max exodus at KU, there are productive players bailing, and the fans are super upset about it. It's gotta be a combination of ego and confidence in getting a similar bag, or maybe slightly less, but the "FU" feels better than a few measly $100k.

My excitement is 100% for the name chaos it will cause. I have zero knowledge of how he actually played at Tech or if he even fills a position of need.
We saw Nolan Groves play a couple of times in high school. He's certainly tenacious, and rebounds well for an off guard. HOWEVER, when you look up "creates his own shot" in the sports dictionary, Groves picture would pop up. The offense at Orono was designed to get him the ball, and have him work for his shot. Often, the other 4 were standing around hoping he might dish off to them this time. He can really drive strong to the hoop, and consequently shoots a ton of FT's. Bottom line for me is, how does he fit in Niko's everybody-moving offense? Can he actually throw a screen for somebody else's shot? My two cents.

It's really blowing my mind how many kids are transferring out of these programs. We know there is plenty of money there, and you'd think they'd have more leverage (especially at KU), with so many others leaving.

Does money dry up when the guady payroll doesn't meet expectations? Is there pressure from big donors to blow it up? Do players actually think they'll make more elsewhere?
All of the above. I would add that I’m sure some of the portal movement is coming from the team they departed from.

With the short 2 week portal I thought this would be like NFL free agency. So far pretty boring.
Just need to ENTER the portal (I just figured this out). Negotiations can extend well beyond two weeks.

I'm sure there are many done deals, but the tampering would be too obvious if announced immediately.

I feel the same way. Yesterday I was checking GopherHole every hour waiting for an announcement, any announcement. Today I was checking every 2 hours for the same. Tomorrow should I check every three? Interesting we have heard nothing, even about our own players--Willis, Vaihola, Shinholster--returning or leaving

I think a lot of teams/ players are wary to announce things too soon out of fear of confirming the rampant tampering that has been occuring basically since the season began

Never played more than 6 mpg in any of his 3 seasons at Rutgers
