2026 NCAA Tournament Thread

Love seeing Coyle sitting courtside in Chicago when the Gopher women are playing in the Sweet 16 in Sacramento. Who’s paying your sizable check again, Mark?
I was thinking the same thing. WTF!!! The ladies get to the sweet 16 for the first time in how long and there he sits behind the Wolverine bench

This is a total kick in the lady balls to the WBB team and makes Coyle look like a piece of turd. WBB is one of very few above average teams in Mark Coyle’s Department of Athletic Mediocrity, which he is entirely accountable for, and the guy’s not even there to support him. Someone please hire this guy off our hands.

I know he is. And his day job, for which he is being paid $1.4 million annually, is the Thomas O. Moe Director of Athletics at the University of Minnesota, which is sadly taking second place to his side gig.
This is a weird take. Imagine if Coyle declined an invitation to be on the selection committee. There would be many Minnesota fans talking about how embarrassing it is that Coyle couldn’t handle serving on the selection committee while being the Minnesota AD.

Coyle was assigned this tournament as part of the selection committee. Happened before the girls qualified to play in Cal.

There’s not a Gopher fan who gives a single shit if Mark Coyle is on the selection committee. Most do care if he’s able to do his job as AD to the best of his abilities. Not being present for the women’s first Sweet 16 in 20+ years, and conducting Zoom interviews with hockey coach candidates instead of meeting them in person, isn’t doing the job he’s paid to do, and that Gophers fans expect him to do. Not sure what’s weird about that.

How was Wagler get recruited so little? Amazing to think if Illinois doesn’t offer he could easily have been a Gopher.
Just read about that. He was skinny and a bit undersized in high school, so all he got were offers from Niko at CSU and Drake before Illinois and Ben (to his credit for recognizing the talent) offered on the same day. He obviously found the perfect fit at Illinois, but he would’ve been fun to watch in Niko’s offense too.

It’s an obligation of the committee to be at the games. This isn’t hard to understand.

I think it’s abundantly clear that you simply don’t like Coyle. He could save a bus full of orphans, and you would complain that he’s paid $1.4 million per year, yet he spends his time working with kids who have nothing to with his athletic department.

He probably would have been enough to get us into the tournament as long as his coming here wouldn't have removed any of the other key guys that did come like Tyson. Would have been fun even if he was just a one and done.

As an actual question because I don’t know, what does MN get for him being on the committee?

We "almost" had Glenn Rice, too. Not to mention Tommy Hammonds and Jeff Lamp.

Someone needs to convince me that the lead referee in the TEN-MI game is NOT Tracy Morgan.
