Watching Indiana win the national championship has got to put a lot of coaches on the hot seat what curt cignetti did is nothing short of a miracle but a lot of football teams around the country have to be looking at it And saying where's our curt cignetti

What happened the last couple seasons at IU was a perfect lightning-in-a-bottle moment of a great coach coming to the program coinciding with huge boosters coming out of the woodwork and the right players showing up at the right time. It’s a roadmap for ways teams like us can step up but at the same time if a single thing didn’t happen how it did IU would not have had the year they had

It doesn’t happen without financial backing, doesn’t matter who the coach is.

Yeah, why not dream? The naysayers - and they'll show up here -will say it's lightning in a bottle, but so what? Why play and why be a fan of if you think that it will likely never happen? Good for Indiana and why not here? Why not us?

Indiana’s roster is rated very similar to Minnesota, if they spent a bunch of cash, according to the ratings services…….well……..point being they were coached up and probably a little luck in recruiting.

Indianas roster has 8-9 nfl draft picks in 2026 spring

They’re not that similar IMO

I don’t think the transfer ratings are super accurate. Also a 3 star transfer with some college experience is likely going to immediately be of use, whereas a 4 star high school kid probably won’t be.

As recruiting service ratings go, yes they are, obviously they are not today. Either misread recruiting or better coaching, whatever, my point is, lot of people are saying it’s all about the money. I don’t believe that is accurate, at least this season.

I agree it’s not all about the money.
Money is pretty important

Id take cignetti over fleck obviously but not sure he could’ve replicated here.

Some Guy, to refresh my failing memory, are you the "guy" that lamented the loss of the Metrodome. It seems like you might have been the person I took issue with a few months back for actually admitting you missed the Metrodome.
No I am not. Not sure who you’re talking about but the metrodome move was incredibly dumb and short sighted

Moving there was the beginning of the 15-20 years lost in the wilderness

Are you saying he couldn’t replicate success here with the same resources Fleck has? Maybe not 16-0, Heisman, NC. But probably better. And if Fleck simply had an extra $15 mil would he have gone 16-0?

Roster aside, the HC and his staff wouldn’t be what it was this year without the program ponying up.

No I’m saying I don’t think he could win a national title here with the resource fleck has

Agree

Disagree

Not sure my take is that hot of a take
Cignetti is really good. Not sure he is good enough to make the gophers win a national title.
If he brought mark cuban donations with him he probably would be.

Also think it’s really hard to win a national title.
Cignetti won’t be a worse coach next year but probably won’t win a national title (I would take the field over Indiana)

OK, that was not you, but after reading most of what you posted today about Indiana, it is a struggle to figure out if you fell on your head from a barn loft at at age five or something else.
Why is me saying Indiana really good controversial?

You think it was a fluke?

I think the big thing is they ponied up to get Mendoza. I know Cuban has said he wrote a very big check for next year, but I don't know that they had a massive payroll for this season.

And one of the biggest things about this team. They literally make almost zero mistakes. I don't know if I've ever seen a team that's as fundamentally sound as this one was.

They’re really good

Honestly other than QB they may have been just as good or better last year but their QB played on a torn knee.

Cignetti is better at scouting college rosters than anyone else and it isn’t close. They’re pulling all Americans off of Maryland

He identities guys who can do what he wants then coaches them to do it. Super impressive. Best coach in college football.
#1 in scouting
Top 15 in everything else

I think you were talking out of both sides of your mouth, or that is what I read before it wore me out.
What was the other side other than Indiana is good?

Saying no one doubted Indiana is just kind of fact.
They’ve been favorites 25 of the last 29 games.
They were favorites 14/16 this year.
They were a 1.5 point dog vs Ohio State and dog @ Oregon

I predicted them to win 28-10 tonight. Miami’s offense played better than I thought

Anyone who says Indiana was underrated is a moron

And anyone who says Miami didn't deserve to be in the playoffs is also a moron. They had a hell of a great season and deserved to be in the title game.

Agree

I thought the two that least deserved it were bama and Oklahoma

I thought Texas was better than A&M but the loss to Florida overrode their win vs A&M

12 teams was fun. Nobody can really be that hurt over missing.
Texas = beat Florida
Notre dame = win one of those two
BYU maybe had the biggest case….but if you lose to Texas tech twice you’re at best the second best team in the country behind tech. So even if tech won it BYU can’t be that mad.

In retrospect. Most teams who lose to 2 unranked teams mid season and finish tied for 3rd in their conference won’t sniff a playoff spot. Surely IU wouldn’t have been given that courtesy. Miami was playing like champions at the end of the year but Notre Dame had a better case and possibly would’ve made the final as well which would’ve been an equally crazy matchup with IU.
