All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

Pretty easy when they are better than everyone.
Are you saying that collection of talent is better than everyone else before Cignetti and staff even get to work?

That’s a wild take!

Their better than everyone else because the coaches have got the team to buy in and believe in themselves and their process.

I’m saying they aren’t a bunch of scrubs playing way above their heads because of some coaching woo-woo. This is what that looks like with less talent… https://247sports.com/article/minne...king-gophers-big-ten-title-chances-186993772/

I imagine it's like that 2019 season x 1000.
It’s 2019 season but the gophers beat Iowa and Wisconsin and Ohio state and a semifinal win (likely over LSU because I bet the gophers get the 4 in that scenario) AND Tanner Morgan is mobile

So 2019 + 4 wins all as important as Penn state + Tanner Morgan can run

Does this game expose Dan Lanning? I get sick of people hyping up these coaches that are gifted blue blood programs and don’t even elevate them.

I don’t know if I’d say that. I think it exposed Moore more than lanning.

Lanning is 48-7 (.873) at Oregon. So I don;t think so. Not sure the the win makes Cignetti one of the greatest coaches ever either. They are both very accomplished coaches.

Oregon still would have lost anyway, but the play that really did them in was the RB running into the QB causing the fumble. IU went up 21-7 and it was over. Too bad Oregon's normal RBs were out.

Yeah. 2019 plus being named the sexiest man alive and dating a super model.

I don’t think it makes Cignetti one of the greatest coaches ever but this is one of the greatest coaching jobs ever. Now if he is able to sustain this level…

Yes, he's done a great job. Will he be able to sustain it? Doubtful at this level. Bear Bryant won at about a .780 clip for his career. I see that Cignetti is now at .795 or something like that. A few more great seasons at Indiana and he's in the conversation. It won;t be easy.

As mentioned earlier, Indiana has 8 guys that were 4 star or higher. The other 3 teams have at least 40…

Indiana does not have the talent of the teams they’re playing but they are destroying them anyway.

Indiana is playing at a level that whole is greater than the sum of their parts. What would you attribute that to?

I think when you have older transfers you can ignore some of the high school ratings (for example I'd be fine with a bunch of Jack Gibbens type transfer players). No doubt though, they are doing it in an unconventional way and Cignetti has a great eye for transfer talent and knows how to use it better than any coach today.

You do realize if you could had pick them you can create a team of two star and under players that is FAR more talented than a team of random 4 star guys.

Just saying, Mark Helfrich won 33 games in his first three years at Oregon and hadn’t had a HC job before and hasn’t had one after. Most coaches would look better and win more if they got to coach at a place like Oregon.

So… your argument is that he isn’t a great coach because he’s the greatest talent evaluator of all time?

That’s what you’re saying if you think he has a roster full of 2 stars with more talent than rosters full of 4 and 5 stars.

Yes, but his roster is full of JMU guys too.

Cignetti said it just fine at the end of the half
Indiana whipped Oregon on both lines. That's really all that matters. Mendoza was really good, but he was hit once. Oregon had 5 tackles for loss and could not get IU behind the sticks. IU had 10. Outside of the 71 yard run when it was 42-7, OU RBs rushed 20 times for 50 yards.

You’re adding the part about him not being a great coach out of no where. When did I say that? My point was it’s not his “getting the players to believe they can win” coaching woo woo that is the reason for his success.

You’re expending a lot of energy on semantics then. What the guy has done at Indiana is incredible no matter how you slice it.
