So Ole Miss should let Lane Kiffin use Ole Miss facilities, resources and time while collecting an Ole Miss paycheck to recruit Ole Miss players for the next however many weeks? Many here know I'm an SDSU fan and when Jimmy Rogers and staff left for Wazzu last December what pissed me off the most about the whole deal wasn't so much the leaving, but essentially recruiting a good chunk of the roster and recruiting class using SDSU's facilities, resources and time while collecting a check from SDSU before resigning. There's no way you keep a sleaze like Kiffin in house and above board.

Yep, he is well within his rights to take another job but he was stupid to think that Ole Miss or any of the players would want him to hang around and coach the team in the CFP. Glad the players are calling him on the BS of pretending like they wanted him to stick around. Kind of hope they win it all in spite of him.

Can't most people say this? Loyalty is for fools in today's college football and in today's corporate world. You can be fired or laid off at any time. Kiffin could have a bad year next year, be fired, and not have the LSU job either, see James Franklin.

Kiffin was at Ole Miss for 6 years and they just had their best 6 year run in 60+ years. LSU is a better job, with better resources, in a better city. Kiffin wanted to finish out this season what he has been building for 6 years and people have a problem with this?

Yeah, college football used to be different. It wasn't a business. It's why most of us disliked the idea of pushing kids out if they weren't good. It was a negative critique of SEC coaches. The idea of a kid who kept up on his grades and didn't get into trouble getting "cut" was frowned upon. That isn't the corporate mindset at all.

There is no more loyalty in college sports. It has transitioned from an amateur sport into a system that's as cutthroat as any business there is.

As far as people having a problem with Kiffin, I think it's more about timing and style. If I just did a documentary where I'm tearing up talking about how my current employer "saved my life" and then I left on the eve of a massive trial, I'd imagine some folks would think I'm an ass. Maybe I should say some additional folks would think I'm an ass.

It comes with the territory. He's free to leave and he should expect some people to have an issue with it. The timing sucks.
 







I actually like Lane Kiffin, his offensive plays are creative and fun to watch.
The Gophers should work some of his offensive plays into their playbook.

He very well might be but he's also a very good coach who is a proven winner. With the amount of money he's getting in the LSU NIL fund I can see him winning a NC in the next 5 years if not sooner.

To the first part.....you are 100% correct that there is little to no loyalty in athletics. Kiffin making the move is his right.

However, him wanting to continue coaching Ole Miss after agreeing to take a job with an in conference rival was just foolish.

Look at it like this.....Fleck leads us to the CFP but before the playoffs decides to take the Wisconsin coaching job. Are you really going to be ok with Fleck continuing to coach the Gophers in the CFP? I know I wouldn't be.

Yes I would let Fleck coach. Companies are a little different, especially if a CEO left for a competitor, but in many cases there is still a long transition period when someone of that position leaves.

What if Ole Miss is one and done under Golding in this year's CFP, and he never gets him back there over the next several years? And what if Kiffin wins a title over the next few years at LSU? You wouldn't think maybe we should have just let Kiffin coach one more month to have a chance to accomplish something that has never happened there?

Their OC is going to LSU but staying for the CFP run. If it was a coordinator or a position coach I wouldn't have a problem with them staying on but head coach is different.

Kiffin staying on would have been a massive distraction for him and the team. Pretty clear from the player comments that have come out that they didn't want him around either.

As far as the him coaching, I would've just put it up to the players rather than made it this dumbass messy mud chucking thing they've decided to do (both sides look like children). If the players say no, move on, then hey there's your answer and that's all you have to say about it. The title will say Ole Miss on it, not Lane Kiffin if he's coaching or not. That's why I'd put it up to the players. No one will give a shit Lane left after winning a title if he'd coached them to it. They kinda claim one national title in 1960 (we all know MN was the actual winner that year). They may never have a team like this year again.

Maybe Kiffin didn't have anything to do with how good the team was this year, but doubt it. I'm sure they'll try take an us against the world mantra but you've still gotta have the Xs and Os to go along with the Jimmys and Joes. The entire offensive staff supposedly wanted to leave (per ESPN). Are they canning all of them as well and dragging them through the mud? How is that going to go in the locker room? The distraction is already there.

Much of this is the problem of the timing of the season and academic calendar. puts coaches and players (as well as their employers) is really challenging spots. similar to Pribula transferring of a CFP team in PSU. LSU needs their guy to try flip players and put a class together as well as get ready for the portal. Ole Miss is still playing. it's all just stupid in how its set up with no restrictions on contacting players or coaches while a season is still ongoing.

This. I think from Ole Miss's side, they have a greater chance of winning without him and the circus he'd bring. Massive distraction and I imagine there are some players that are not at all happy with him right now.

Sumrall at Tulane/Florida is completely different in that 1) he won't generate nearly the attention Kiffin would and 2) players on his team probably understand more why he's making the move to a higher level program in a better conference.

To your last point the timing of everything is really bad. They made it a little better in theory by not opening the portal until January but teams need to fill coaching spots while other teams are still playing.

In general though this Kiffin thing is probably a pretty rare situation. Kiffin is a very polarizing figure who tends to burn bridges wherever he goes and rarely makes a clean break from any of his jobs.

They should have just gone to the players first.....pretty clear they don't want him around.

do you have a link to this part? I saw the one guy who tweeted that Kiffin's statement wasn't really what was said, but was curious how widespread it is?

Seems like the offense was wanting to go to LSU but D wanted to stay, which may be playing some role too. Super weird situation and very intriguing it seemed split into sides of the ball (per ESPN anyway)

Haven't seen or looked for a lot but saw the one comment from a player that was replied to by another making it seem that they were disputing Kiffin's claim they wanted him to coach.
