Game 5: Gophers visit Kansas 11-19-25

Come on coach P come up with a play that does not have Hart touch the basketball. I think she is 0-9. Use Mara, GG or Tori.

I don’t know why you don’t think they have any offense. You can draw up plays, but if the screen isn’t set correctly, or the defense reads it, you have to be able to switch. Which is the whole point of motion offense. Plus, it is a two point game with one minute left, on the road for the first time this year, against a good team. Sometimes the shots don’t fall, but they are not giving up..

How do you call that offfense? Half of their shots were basically from half court. This coaching staff has zero offensive capabilities.

Who ever thought this team should or will be ranked is crazy. Lost to a team who didn’t even have their best player.
At least I can set my expectations for the rest of the year.
If we’re lucky we get to .500 in conference play.

Braun is not a shooter outside of mid range. Every three tonight has been a brick or airball.
Yes Braun looks a little rusty see how the season goes or her. Sorry to many wasted possessions getting the ball to Hart not enough movement without the ball. Coach P did not have this team ready. Too many cake games early that they can't learn anything from. Still early but they need to improve. I would rather have them play a team like this than win by 30 and everybody is making final four plans.

Ouch! So much for the depth? 6 players pretty much tonight. Tonga 4 fouls in 6 minutes. Can't seem to find ways to get anyone open. Kansas was the much faster team. Just didn't seem like we were ready to play from the start. Offense was slow ball movement. Probably due to the fact of going from cupcake to decent team on the road, but tonight was ugly to watch. Even ugliness, we had our chances, but coach P better figure out some offense if we want to go dancing.

Wonder how much the Woodson injury impacted a game like this. Seems like Woodson was set to play the 5 in a small lineup (among other things). Would still like to see the Gophers play small at times. KU is not big, and Hart/Tonga were not the answer tonight. Would have liked to see more Holloway too.

Yeah I thought this team would be different, but, we’re not very athletic and it shows big time. I know it’s just one game; but, with the experience we have these are the games you need to win if you want to become a serious program.
Might be harsh to say but I can kind of see why Heyer departed. She saw the writing on the wall.

Outside of McKinney, Glenn and Battle the foot speed on this team is very slow. They will have trouble all season staying with teams because they just aren’t quick enough. Holloway needs to be on the floor more just for her quickness but she needs overall improvement in her game. They run an offense but honestly Kansas was quicker and could overplay because about half our players can’t beat them to a spot on the floor. We also did a poor job getting the ball in the paint. Sophie works hard but we get her the ball late a lot.

45% 3PT shooter in Makena Christian and doesn't seem like any offense to call up any plays to get her any good looks. only 6 minutes.

She is a defensive liability, not quick enough. Again teams like Kansas will expose our lack of quickness. It’s a matchup nightmare when you can’t keep up.

I would have like to see them try a little small ball against a team like this but what do I know?

Pretty sure they all got beat a few times tonight on the D end. She has shown good D and steals earlier. Need to be able to shoot better then 34% from the floor and 22% behind the arc if you want to get some W's.

There’s only three people that’s quick on this team. If we had any ability to run an offense there’s no reason she shouldn’t be able to get some open look threes.

That was disappointing, I agree with some others on this board, year 3 and no offense-at least not against Power 4 teams. Every time they went into Hart I found myself screaming NO! Kansas was much quicker, more disruptive defensively. Gophers stand around too much on offense. No one on the team, besides McKinney has any touch around the basket. Baffling why Battle and Braun can’t get it going this year scoring wise. Unless the bubble is really weak this year, not sure if this team is NCAA bound.

Terrible shooting: 34.4% FG% & 21.7%. Rebounds even (33), FT% about even (80%:82%) but Kansas shot 7 more free throws and made 6 more, and assists even (12). Minnesota had fewer turnovers (11 vs 19), more steals (9 vs 4), more points off turnovers (13 vs 9), and more fast break points (8 vs 2). I couldn't see the game. Did they force their outside shoots, rush, or not get good looks?

They we’re basically shooting from half court

Was really hoping this team would be different. Watching Kansas offense constantly move and cut and get open looks was fun to see.
Yes it’s known I’m not a coach P fan; was hoping she would be able to prove me wrong finally. I’ll keep waiting. lol
