No, I mean like his ban would only be for a week and then he'd be allowed to post again under that name.

Everyone else I recall would get a permanent ban the first time.

Anywho, if he's on here like you think he's probably smiling that another thread is about him, even though he hasn't posted in it.

Possibly, and I truly regret bringing it up in hindsight.

If he's playing well with others and contributing, then that's fine with me. No beef (didn't have one either in previous incarnations).

Some of the posters on here are indeed legendary and I admire the passion that some of them have on here. I think we all want our favorite team to win but there always seems to be several paths in how to get there and we don't always agree on which road to go on.

When I was young, the old timers were fans from back of the glory years from the 40's, 50's and 60's but it was awfully lean for quite a while. It's tough to win consistently in the Big Ten but it's a lot better now than it was watching Smokey Jor or the Wacker years! I think it is just awful how bad the Gopher basketball program has become -- I never thought I would see the basketball team this bad. (My first year following the team was the 24-3 year.) It used to be the hottest ticket in town.

Anyways -- keep the torch going and I hope to be around for many more Gopher seasons! It's fun to connect with people who care about these teams as much as I do!!
 



My recollection is that Loon suffered some health issues. Don't know more than that.

I also have a vague recollection that SON took a hiatus some time back.

And yes Tipsy and Rupert certainly had no trouble expressing themselves back in the day.
 


For those of us who have been regulars here for 6+ years, SoN is a Gopherhole legend. One the posts I'd read every week was SoN's recap and notes of Sid's Sports Huddle. For years, it was one of the better sources of Gopher info - whether it was accurate or not.

I hope you're doing well SoN!
 

I'm so old that I miss OldTimer. He posted semi-regularly around 20-ish years ago but even back then he was pushing 80. I remember someone on the board was still receiving his Christmas letters after he had stopped posting. I assume by now he's gone with "Sweetie" to the great brickhouse in the sky.

I remember him quite well, too. Seemed like a great guy and he had some of the greatest stories from the glory years. He was one of the best!
 

Yeah, we had some greats leave us. Doc’s basketball point guessing tourneys, schnoodler the ice cream abuser. Bad Gopher had me worried with the 2024 mid year hiatus. I hope SoN and NYC are just relaxing and doing better than ever.

I was a lurker on the football board since 2008 before creating my profile, I remember Doc and schnoodler quite well. Also MN snowman

Yes! I had forgotten about SoN's recap of Sid's Sports Huddle (always a must read). Man, I can't believe that I've been on Gopher Hole almost 17 years. By far the best site to get info/opinions on all Gopher sports.

Hopefully SoN is back soon, posting and ornery as ever.
 

One thing that has evolved over the years is trolling. Back in the late 90's and early 2000s, CNote Hawkeye, badgerinohiovalley and others would drop by and cause a stir. I found it entertaining.
SON had mentioned he did HS broadcasts in southern MN. He hinted at Windom, but I'm not certain.
Another legend who no longer posts is husker70. He sure loved weight room talk.

If you are talking about Rick W., he passed in January. He wasn't short, he was Norwegian, and never ornery.

Perhaps I am forgetting a third example but if my memory serves me I have only willingly/knowingly trolled on social media in two settings, separated by over 20 years.

The first was back in the early 00’s on a muskie fishing board where a friend of mine and I would play off each other’s stories about keeping muskies to eat. Nothing triggers a muskie fisherman more than the thought of somebody keeping a muskie to eat. We used to have some great fictitious stories about spearing big muskies from our dark house and asking if anyone had a good muskie gumbo recipe. It was very short lived. Guys started ignoring that BS after a few trolls and that squashed the fun. But it was hilarious for a while.

My other example is a current one. Anytime I see North Dakota hockey content on Tik Tok, I simply add a “Go Hawks!” Comment and await the responses. Unlike the muskie fishermen, the ND fans are slow to figure it out.

I've had the honor of running into Bleed a couple of times...once crossing Washington Avenue to go to a game (he had LittleBleed with him at the time as I recall) and the other at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando when we played Mizzou.

Fortunately for GHNation, Bleed still has many years left in him although his thumbs probably are getting more wear and tear posting than most folks.

A GH institution to be sure. Ski U Bleed!

The Loon and Walrus are not the same person. Several of these posters have reportedly died or had health issues:
