Last 10 games he has averaged 21.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.7 blocks. All good numbers.
As of RIGHT NOW, the average starter scores 15.2 points per game, rebounds 6.6, 3.9 assists. Not only would he be a valuable contributor on most teams, very few teams come close to exceeding this on average. So, YES.

My bad, I thought you said he could be the star on half the teams.
 






He's a $30M player. At least.

They are going to have to do something with Julius this summer to keep him. Even if they do get rid of Julius this will be an early test of the ne regime's willingness to spend money.

And Julius Randle averages 19 points, 7.2 boards and 4.5 assists.

Neither one is very good defensively.

I like Naz, but being the best player on half the teams in the NBA made me laugh.

Well, all is well. The NBA should make you laugh. I'm still recovering from fans who said that Ricky Rubio, what's his name, was a very good ball player. The guy couldn't pass (they said he was great at it), couldn't make an assist for his life (if not for the brilliance of the player receiving the ball, there would be no assists), and Rubio was a turnover machine with his "no-look" passing, ahem, skilz. I wouldn't type 'skills' because it would be detrimental and disrespectful to the word.

Just for a bit of irony, let's highlight some of Ricky Rubio's actual stats: He averaged 7.4 assists per game, which is quite impressive for someone who "couldn't pass." And those "no-look" passes? They must have been pretty effective, considering his career assist total is over 5,000. But hey, what do I know? I still hated him as a player. His 2.5 turnovers per game plus his poor passing which caused other players to end up with turnovers (a stat in need of being produced) made him the focus of my basketball contempt for a decade.

I think the stat on Ricky that sticks out for me is his 324 wins and 374 losses in games he played in. In effect, all of his assists were mostly nonconsequential during times of the game where the outcome was fairly certain. He made many of those 7.4 assists when the games were long since out of reach and the defense was slacking. And slack time in the NBA can start as early as the first quarter.

One thing is certain, Rubio is no John Stockton. Not. Even. Close. Stockton had 15,806 assists and had a knack for impacting the game. Rubio sent people to the snack counter early.

Ricky was maddening to have on the Wolves, but almost everything you wrote is utter nonsense.

I missed it. It just reminded me of the guy who used to argue that KG was not a good rebounder based on getting all of his rebounds off of missed free throws.

Lol. There is either nuance in what he said or simply flat out crazy. I know where I usually fall on that continuum. Just by looking at anything I post alters its meaning. If I read something, I am invariably wrong in my conclusions. I predict that you will be more than gracious in pointing out my flaws. Keep up the good work. That is my only advice.

Now that you have predicted it, it is in my nature to make sure you will be wrong. Why am I like this?
 



Start on half of the teams, yes. Star on half of the teams....definitely not.

Naz plays hard, gets good blocks, and has a quick 3pt release and is surprisingly accurate for a big. However, he is streaky and not a consistently good defender or scorer. If he were a star, he wouldn't have missed the game-winning 3-pointer in the playoffs last year. Stars make those shots.

No stars ever miss shots at the end of game. They make 100% of them...

Naz is not a star on most teams, I'll agree, but he's a top PF in the league when he starts. He is much more inconsistent when he is coming off the bench and playing fewer minutes.

Naz will be a starter next season and get paid as such whether it's with the Wolves or not. And I really hope it's with the Wolves.

this is part of why it made no sense to me to extend rudy. they'll also have to decide what to do with randle and NAW.
 

The Wolves have an embarrassment of riches right now. Lots of good players and a deep bench. Win a title and it might make a player think about leaving. Don't win a title and they'll think, "Might as well make the cash somewhere else and not win a title."

When Rudy is out, the Wolves interior D is poor. It made sense to extend him.

Keeping Naz has always been a keeping him over KAT or Randle discussion.

NAW is good but they need the young guards to replace him next season.

extending him for his years at 33-34-35 for 20% of the cap when the move on moving KAT was to have flexibility (its why they wanted Randle is his contract was up) when Rudy's contract would've also been up is more what I mean not making sense. Rudy's advanced defensive analytics (defensive win shares, defensive box plus/minus) are down this year and are some of the lowest of his career. He's at #10 in defense rating but Naz is #15 and the Jayden and Ant are both in the top 25 (if you like win shares, Jayden is 9, Rudy 11, Ant 18, Naz 20) . Do I think Rudy is better defensively right now than Naz? absolutely. However, Naz is not drastically worse defensively (and has gotten better every year) and adds the floor spacing I think works much better with the player Ant is becoming. To me would've made more sense to wait given you could've extended Rudy or Randle at any time during the year or seen on what you got out of Naz

NAW I agree I really like him, but imagine they probably move on unless the contract number is really team friendly.
 

Naz is a good player but at this point he needs to leave and get paid, I am not certain he makes this team a contender.

The mistake would be - no return for a player the org basically trained from undrafted and fostered into a 35M per year player will get nothing if he walks.

Sign and trade is the best outcome imo

I don't care what metrics you throw out, Naz isn't even in the same hemisphere as Rudy defensively, even the down year Rudy has been having.

Its clear they needed Rudy to resign and opt out if they had any chance of keeping Naz or Randle without hitting the second apron this year. What I don't get is the rate they signed him at, not a massive overpay, but who was their competition? I guess all it takes is one team.....

All I’m saying is we as fans often have slanted glasses when it comes to certain guys, both good and bad. That’s why I like to also look at the metrics

Very different players with what he adds on offense, which I’m still not sold ant can be the guy with how they’ve laid out the floor around him right now and where I don’t love Rudy with this team. Defensive end he’s still a great player

Currently, there are only two (2) teams that would have the cap space to sign Naz to a $25-30M/year deal - DET and BKN. Reid would be a perfect addition to what the Pistons are building.

I still think he ends up staying here, though.
