All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

The whole "the U would never hire Wade with his background and the U's scandal" is just such BS....NCST has had very publicized "scandals" in their past (Jimmy V, anyone?) but has no problem hiring Wade. They will be a national title contender within a couple of years.

I won't hold my breath.

The U does.

And are you really asking who? The local media loves going after the U for everything when it comes to athletics. Christ Channel 9 did a friggin expose on the hockey team drinking at a bar once!

I am not saying it makes any sense but the amount of bad press that would come from hiring Wade would stop them. Should it? That's not for me to decide but denying it is denying reality.
The other big ten cities have the media locked down. For better and worse.

Hold that thought a couple of years and let’s see .

We joke about Pitino not filling the rental car gas tank because the local media actually tried to make that a story.
I was going to put that in there but Pitino played that perfect! (Still does)

The next couple of days should very interesting. With McCollum's team advancing to the 2nd round and Medved's team playing today, it is possible that both are still coaching come Monday. It is also possible that their teams are both done by Saturday. My guess is that by Sunday night, both will be done coaching for the year...and both may have job offers by the time that happens. Meanwhile, Calhoun's season is over. I am taking Bennett off the list as I think his coaching days are done (at least for now) so the list is now 5...Jacobsen, Medved, Calhoun, McCollum, and Tauer. One of them is likely to be named our head coach in the next 72 hours.

Tony Bennet? 😐

Ben Jacobsen?

Jacobsen being hired would be as confusing as the Ben Johnson hire.

I am 100% certain both have job offers already. We are just waiting for them to lose to find out which job offer each accepted and if either is with the Gophers.

Why would you have Tauer on the list? If he was the guy, he'd have been hired last week. Safe to say you can take him off. No chance he's the next Gopher head coach.

Why would he come here? He's Mr. St. Thomas, and coaches at the best program in the state. Would be a demotion.

I think the list is 1.

These things tend to be kept pretty quiet but the lack of any real names beyond Medved getting mentioned makes it seem like it is pretty much a done deal. Kind of feels like it did when Fleck was hired. He was basically the only candidate and things moved quickly.

Next couple days will be interesting to see if anything happens.

With DeVries off the market, the list is down to 8...Jacobsen, Dutcher, Medved, Calhoun, McCollum, Bennett, Tauer, and Joerger. I don't think it will be Joerger and have a suspicion it won't be Dutcher d/t the buyout (even though I think he would be an excellent hire) so we are down to 6...Jacobsen, Medved, Calhoun, McCollum, Bennett, and Tauer. I think McCollum is going to end up as the Iowa coach. That leaves 5...Jacobsen, Medved, Calhoun, Bennett, and Tauer.
My God you are over complicating this.

We have a deal in place with Niko

The academics running the University care, that’s who. For as long as I’ve been a student and alum, every president, from Ken Keller to Rebecca Cunningham, and the Board of Regents have viewed athletics as a necessary evil that was fine when it’s quiet, but a complete pain in the ass to them when there’s a whiff of trouble. They’re conflict averse in the extreme.
It's hilarious to me that there are posters denying this extremely obvious reality.

It's really stupid but the situation here is the situation.
