Tyler Johnson is Picked Up by the Raiders

Not in shape? Not working out with his fellow players this summer to get to know them?

He has to work harder and be engaged. Being cut means he has not distinguished himself. His hope for the NFL is to make someone's roster and put in the time to qualify for an NFL pension.

I guess it might be important but I never quite understood the interest or excitement in fans if a former player is in the NFL.

I've never understood creeps who lurk on opposing team's message boards throughout the year. To each their own.
You have used creeps twice now. You need some help in expanding your limited vocabulary.

I've used it way more than twice.

Your reasoning is also awful. Why would I use another word to describe you when the one I'm using fits you perfectly? I know a lot of other words, none of them quite capture you as well as "creep".

I feel like "loser" works pretty well too.

Before he was drafted didn't someone in the media kind of dump on Johnson as far as attitude, work ethic, or something like that? I remember people here being up in arms.

Perhaps some truth to that after all??

Because Tyler Johnson has provided me (and most people on this board) with a lot of great memories, seems to be a great person, and I’d like him to see success in his life. Not sure what’s hard to understand about that.

No idea on character but basically my take on him is he isn’t good enough to be more than a WR4/5 and WR4/5 who can’t return punt or kicks and can’t cover kickoffs or be gunners on punt teams aren’t very valuable.

and as much as people want to say it’s an effort thing to cover kicks, it’s also a skill thing.

I think it’s more likely that it’s just very hard to stick in the nfl. At this point in his career, teams might as well take a shot on a younger/cheaper guy. There’s a ton of great college players that aren’t quite fits for the nfl, and are maybe just half a step too slow or a bit too small, and no fault of their own. Would love to see him do well, but it’s no shame if he doesn’t stick any longer in the nfl.

Maybe but it would be weird for Tampa to bring him back a second time if that were the case.

Precisely.

I agree. There are layers of competition in the NFL. He has already accomplished what most college players only dreamed of. The average NFL career is 3.3 years. I hope that he catches on with another team.

Yikes. But it's the Raiders so it's not too surprising.
I think this kind of stuff is more and more common in the age of social media, the instantaneousness of it and I think it's a little over blown. These kinds of stories are coming our more and more, I don't know that I read too much into it. Shit gets out, leaks happen, you name it.
It's certainly not isolated to the Raiders, I've heard numerous instances of this happening in recent years. Shit, it probably happens more often than people realize and it's just that some players who are more butt-hurt by it than others elect to make it public. Many probably just let it slide.

The AI generating the SI.com articles messed up. That Tyler Johnson isn't our TJ.

Johnson also has no experience of helping out on special teams which means you need to be top 3-4 WR to make a team.

The astronomical amount of money that NFL QBs command now means that there are crumbs to dole out to fill out rosters. Veterans trying to resign with another team get kicked to the curb. An inexperienced rookie is cheaper.

Think it was pretty clear that Tyler was going to wash out of the league after his 2021 season.

The more surprising thing to me is that Bateman is on the ropes in Baltimore now. Very likely demoted to the fourth spot ahead of this season.

Totally agree. Lots of very good college WRs that can’t make it in the NFL
