Official 2024 Gophers Football Recruiting Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Rumors

I mentioned it earlier in this thread that Gilmore has a lot of pro-gopher Twitter activity. Saine was also up there with his activity. We’re just waiting for Gilmore to decide if MN will lock up the in state DL class. Does anyone know Gilmores timeline?

Also most of the recruits were after have a lot of gopher related activity on Twitter. The one outlier is Mandell. It seems like the only thing he likes is HS T&F which I think is great. I just expected more CFB related material on his Twitter given his status. Anyone know about where he’s at and his timeline?

Gilmore is on a visit tomorrow and is staying overnight tonight.

He Freitag has potential at his size and speed to be a great football player. I know he is a good point guard in BBall, and focusing on that in Cali. But I think, a lot of scouts would say his potential in football is limitless.
Do we know if he'll play football this fall or is he just playing basketball out there?

Pretty interesting candidate. Three years eligibility. Big kid. Lots of G5 interest. As a freshman, rated one spot better than our year five senior Chuck Filiaga. Would be a nice get, but he’s got a lot of options.

Just a fans perspective. Last year I was able to see Daniel Freitag play in person when our Apple Valley FB team went against him. Entering the game I was excited to see him play. It was the last game of the season with a lot on the line for both teams. He showed grit in that he was injured and came back into the game with an apparent foot/leg injury and tried to put the team on his back. He is quick and uses a good spin move to avoid and get out of tackles. What I didn't like was his negative body language and the way he interacted with his own teammates. Even before the injury our 5-10 DB who is committed to a D3 program took away 2 balls from him for INT's. He is way more polished than what Jonathan Mann was at Rosemount but Tyler Johnson was head and shoulders above him when comparing other Gophers WR's that I've seen play HS ball recently.

I found it interesting that with all of the talk here about recruiting local guys in the past, Wisconsin may miss out on all 4 of the top guys in the state of Wisconsin's 2024 class, even with the excitement surrounding the Fickell hire. There's a real chance they'll only get 3 of the top 10 guys from in state. 3 of them appear headed to PSU. Losing a lineman AND a running back (high school teammates) to PSU seems to highlight to me how the change to their offensive identity may blow up in their face.

I have no idea if it's a good thing or not and it's probably not related, but the WI program did make a pretty drastic change in direction from being a pretty provincial type of staff to a staff that has fewer ties to the state. Even symbolically, giving the spunky kid from who played Ladysmith HS the boot to hire the guy from Ohio - it changes things.

Honestly, it might end up being JUST symbolic and Fickell recruits the hell out of WI.

That class drops off pretty quickly after those top two. Wisc has had a knack in the past for elevating lower ranked state players...we'll see if that holds with Fickell.

Nice to see Mason Carrier having a good showing at a talent loaded camp. I think he’s going to be a very good player for us.

Yep, small town, committed immediately (and offered immediately). These kinds of guys tend to outperform their rankings.

"We thought Minnesota commit Mason Carrier had a shot at the MVP {at LB} but we certainly weren't arguing with Jones as the choice. Carrier looks the part physically and showed he can cover, getting his hands on several passes."

I like that. A 6'2" LB who can cover (hopefully including tight ends!).

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Definitely less of a Wisconsin presence on staff under Fickell. But each class has its own nuances.

Sounds like Harbour and Corey Smith both grew up out of state and moved to Wisconsin more recently. Less Wisconsin loyalty in those cases. Never want to lose guys like that to Penn State but it's a bit different than the homegrown situation.

Roy would be a big loss.

Wisconsin wouldn't accept Pilof's commitment based on some off field stuff. They took Landon Gauthier and Pilof committed to Rutgers days later.

Outside of that and the guys already committed to UW, they haven't offered anyone else in state.

Ironically from a rankings perspective I'd bet this class will be highest rated in UW history, but lacking some of the traditional instate kids. Been a lot of discussion on this board on homegrown MN talent vs national talent and I'm guessing Badger fans will be having a lot of that discussion eventually as well.

Huge if we can land both... seems to be promising

Both are ranked 4 STAR on 247s recruiting website, sitting at 1 and 2 spots in state rankings for MN

The instate recruiting momentum has had a great feel since last year, even Howard seemed to close to coming here.
