Ky Thomas enters the transfer portal again

There are a lot of running backs in the portal. Hopefully her gets picked up, but I wonder what his chances are the second time around.

Unfortunately the transfer happy world is going to leave some players homeless, learning a tough lesson. There are usually more players in the portal than there are available scholarships.
 




If he decides to step down to FCS level, will he be eligible immediately? Waiting a year doesn't seem like a good idea if he's looking for a bigger role with a team.

I know he was also hurt at one point.

What did PJ say the other week? “People think the grass is greener somewhere else, but do you know what is most green? Weeds.” I don’t know if I got the quote right but Ky is just another example of someone who failed in the transfer portal. For every Bucky Irving, there seems to be 10 Ky Thomas’.

I'd take him back. He had a good thing going here. Unfortunately kind of messed it up.

K State might not be an ideal situation. They have Deuce Vaughn who is a JR and they had a really good FR backup. Vaughn might go pro but still. It is possible he ends up there but it's kind of crowded there too.

I wouldn't be shocked if he is/will be a grad transfer. He enrolled early at the U, so he'll be 3.5 years in after this year.

If he has immediate eligibility, I don't think it's outside the realm of possibilities he'd be interested in returning back.

Unless he gets a waiver and they are incredibly liberal with those nowadays.

Or he might be a grad transfer. He was an early enrollee here, so it's definitely possible he finished in 3.5 years.

There's no chance we would be interested in him returning back.

I believe most people have had at least one mulligan in their lives, be it work, dating, whatever. Sometimes the grass looks so green and lush that the new thing becomes flawless. Once there, the veneer wears off and you realize you made a mistake.

I had one in my mid-20's changing companies. Knew after about 3 months it was not a good decision.

Yeah, he also handled it the right way. He finished out the year (helped us win a bowl game).

I'm not saying we should bring him back, but if our reasoning is bitterness over him leaving, we need to get over that. If we think he can help us, I hope PJ brings him back.

Deuce declared for the draft already.

They have a pretty good rb room. They had a good young returning starter, so it was an odd choice to go there if he was looking for play time.

He also transferred, which generally makes it harder to graduate early. Either all your credits don’t transfer, or your major has different prerequisites and you have to take a few more basic courses, etc. If he graduated in 3.5 years with a transfer, good for him and he IMO has earned another “free” transfer. If not, he gotta sit. His coach didn’t leave, he can’t move closer home, so not really any viable reason for a waiver. Of course, this is the NCAA, so logic doesn’t usually win out.

Part of the reason ky left is because Potts was and still is better. Williams is also our best back in pass pro so he has a role on passing downs. Ky quit on us once already there's no coming back from that.
