Receiver room looks great next year

Really it’s 5 returning pass catchers and one pass dropper since you included MBS
The thing we should be high on is that MBS was in position to make some of the worst drops I've ever seen in college football. He was doing everything except catching.

If he does some hand strength work over the summer then maybe those drops turn into huge plays.

Agreed, some recency bias makes me hopeful, but a lot of games of no separation and etc for a lot stretch of games means I wouldn’t bet on many of these guys consistency wise.

Even some of the successes later you had Athan throwing into tight coverage. Great throws and catches but those are risky situations.

IIRC Wisconsin coaches chose to defense MN differently on the back end ie zone vs man than IL, IA, etc earlier in the season and that can explain at least some of the increased success through the air. Is it possible some are drawing too many conclusions from that one game.

People are quick to write players off. It’s pretty standard for players to improve. Yes MBS had some very ugly plays, but he has made some good plays in the past. He probably will make some good plays next season as well. I’m sure some wrote off Howden, Nubin, and Sori Marin at one point too.

Just got better yet.

Awesome get! Really good portal additions. I was hoping for a young player with potential and a proven vet. They out did that by getting a proven vet and a proven young player.

With the focus on WR plus what we saw from AK8 plus losing MO, really feels like we are going to be more pass happy next year.

I don't think we have any top tier WR ala OSU, buy that depth has to be one of the best in the country.

With 2 WR transfers coming in it would seem likely that maybe some of our current guys will go into the portal after the bowl game. Would be surprised if they all stick around.

Hopefully MBS is the one to leave, I'd hate for Jackson or Wright to transfer,
that being said wouldn't Wright lose a year of eligibility if he left since he has already transferred once before? Or am I making that up

CrAB and Crooms will only be around for this season. There’s still not a ton players at the position. So it will be interesting to see if someone leaves.

No.

A couple years back we carried 12 or 13 WRs before some mass transfers of guys who hadn’t played. We are at a good number of WRs now, but I could see someone transfer if he felt he might be tumbling down the depth chart and could play elsewhere.

Dylan’s body language and effort were exponentially better with AK8 getting the snap.
I agree with this but that’s a problem. Things aren’t always going to go his way and we need someone battling through those times too.

He doesn’t get thrown to because he doesn’t get separation and doesn’t always give full effort on his routes. Even many of his great catches often seem to be contested. Yes he has the talent to make those highlight reel, jump ball catches, but the thing that made TJ and Bateman great is they ran great routes and seemed to be wide open all the time. Wright isn’t getting overlooked due to scheme or favoritism, he has had plenty of opportunity to prove himself.
If we are only throwing to wright when he has separation, we aren’t throwing it to him enough. It’s just not his game. He is going to be more of an ernie wheelright type.

We needed to take more deep shots last year and a one-on-one covered wright would have been a phenomenal option.

I like our wide receiver transfers. That’s great use of the portal. I’d like to see two running backs come in next.

I can certainly buy that thinking, at least to an extent.

i mean i wouldnt be shocked but we needed bodies at the position. as others have said. we had like 8 scholly guys on the roster. Most teams carry at least 11+

MBS has not been with the team for a while. Maybe he's mulling it over, but 99% sure he will be transferring.

That's alright. Was inconsistent. Glad to see WR commits. Really have only have Jackson and maybe Wright. Autman-Bell coming off an injury, who knows what he will do next season.

Dang, that's huge news. If he's not with the team for bowl prep it seems all but certain he's out of the boat. i'm not necessarily shedding a tear given all the additions at WR and his drops so clearly standing out to me, but MBS has made some very big plays for this team and on the surface been a big PJ guy. Interesting development.

He could still be a "PJ guy" but maybe feels it isn't working out where PJ is. Those aren't always mutually exclusive things.

Morgan threw to Wright five or six times in five games. DW ran close to 100 routes during that time. What did he need to battle through?

Posters like to refer to the time Morgan threw deep down the right sideline late in a loss. Wright did not get near the ball and it was picked. Thus followed the great cry that Wright doesn't battle for the ball. But replays show on that play he was perfectly hemmed in by a defender in front impeding his route, and the sideline.

We need a player who doesn't pout when he doesn't get the ball.

I like DW but if he will play harder if AK is the QB then he has to mature. I 100% agree that Morgan should have taken more deep shots, especially to DW. I'm not arguing that point. I'm only saying that IF the idea is that DW is going to be more locked in because things will be going his way more, then he needs to mature. I don't know if that's true. I was just responding to someone else's point about him potentially being more locked in with AK.
