I can't even listen to him announce a Vikings game. He is all about trying to be a cool guy. Just call the game PA. You don't have to make some gimmick call. You are also not the story. The game is the story. That is all. Can't stand him. I am probably in the huge minority.

Don’t tell Spaulding.

People are just creaming their pants all over Twitter about how great he is today. I'm with you. He sucks. I literally cannot listen to him. Not on his show. Not as an announcer.

He is awful.

PA has been a terrible PBP man for the Vikings for a long as he's been on the mike, for any number of reasons. He needs to go back to Canterbury and stick to calling the nags.

I think he does a nice job at the race track announcing horse racing. But his show went downhill after Dubay went off the rails. It's unlistenable now. As are his Vikings calls.

Wow, really? Geez.

I don't ever listen to the game on his broadcasts, so I get a kick out of listening to the few "highlight" calls he makes for each game, after the fact.

In that sense, I think he's great!

A lot of fun haters around here. PA is a great play by play announcer. I will agree that his radio show has become unlistenable though.

Preaching to the choir.

If bombastic fools are what you desire, then sure.

I think I finally figured out why PA is an awful PBP guy: he is trying to make every single play a viral moment. He's been recovering from this one for 20 years.

Thank goodness we have Mike Grimm. Love listening to Grimm. I rarely hear a Vikings broadcast but get the sense PA talks over his color guy. Grimm & Thompson have a nice conversational rhythm.

Never thought I'd say this, but I don't mind PA as the Viking guy. I don't really care that much about the Vikings, so I tend to enjoy his over-the-topness.

He takes too long to get to the crucial information, who is running, how long a run, and what yard line. He practically has a heart attack in his excitement, then it turns out to be a 3 yard gain.

Yeah the few times I've listened to him on the radio compared to Grimm he's way better at describing formations pre snap and describing the play itself, feel like I'm there. As for the emotional side of it, the over the top homerism by both Grimm and PA can get annoying, but Grimmer losing his shit on the refs calling basketball is also hilarious. With announcers it comes don to do you want them to root for the team they call or not and how one feels about PA would depend on how you feel about that. What I can say is when I was in college and I interned at KFAN, PA, Cory Cove, Berriero and JG and also Dubay when he was sober were some of the nicest people I've ever met. Common was a prick to his support staff, but I could talk Golf with him, so we were fine

Just in case people aren't aware, someone posted some video online of PA calling the key plays in the Vikings-Bills game. and lots of people just love it.

For my tastes, shouting does not make a game more exciting. it just makes it harder to understand what's happening. but, in all fairness, some people respond to that style. I used to live in Iowa and heard Jim Zabel doing Iowa football. he made PA look tame by comparison.

PA may be fun for sound bites, but when you listen to an entire game, it gets old real fast. as noted, he is inconsistent on providing basic information like down-and-distance, yards gained, and time remaining.

Ray Christensen loved the Gophers, but he didn't go over the top and he always told the listener what they needed to know to follow the action.

All this PA love is gonna make Barreiro goes nuts. Only room for one at the top. DB cannot stand sharing a spotlight

Loved Ray. Don't live in Minn so I don't listen to PA, but was back for the Purdue game and listened to some of Vikings game on Sunday. When the ref tripped Smith as he was about to intercept a pass the color guy and PA would not get off of it. At first I could not stand PA's game call, but as it went on he sort of grew on me. Put me down as undecided.

This. Lots of boomers on this thread.
I would like to clearly state that I am Gen X, and have complete distaste for the guy.
